GIRLS' BASKETBALL Won 16-Lost 7 The Trojanettes played one of the toughest schedules in history this season. Two teams on the schedule, Somers and Ida Grove, had all their team back from the previous year when they went to the state tournament. Also on the schedule were three other teams that had played in district tourna- ments the year before. The girls got off to a slow start, but gained momentum as the season progressedi This was the first time in the past six years the Trojanettes failed to win the Sac County Tournament. The Trojanettes defeated Lake View in the first round. In the semi-finals Early defeated Odebolt 47 to 44, when the Trojanettes hit only 19 per cent from the field. Early went on to win the tournament by defeating Schaller. Odebolt defeated Wall lake 52 to 38 to win consolation honors. The 1956-57 season also marked the first time the Odebolt girls team was invited to perform in a clinic. The Trojanettes gave a demonstration in the afternoon, at Holstein, on team offense. ln the evening they played and defeated a very tough Hartley team 47 to 35. ln sectional tournament play the Trojanettes appeared to, be a tough contender, and proved themselves to be in the finals. Odebolt drew a bye in the first round and played and defeated Lake City in the second round 45 to 34. This set the stage for the game of the year, meeting rival Ida Grove in the finals. lda Grove, with its state tournament team from the previous year, had a post forward averaging 39 points a game. Myrna Lange, Arlene Purdy, Audrey Cowlham, Margaret Johnson, and Sandra Higby combined their efforts to hold her to only five baskets from the field. Three of these came with only three minutes left in the ball game. This guard combination deserves credit for doing such a fine job all season. Ida Grove defeated Odebolt 58 to 49, but it was a game with only one or two points difference most of the way. ln the front court for the Troianettes were Jean Hanson, Judy Ogclen, Audrey Meeves and Bonnie Raasch. They combined their efforts for a 57.6 offensive average. In the guard court the defensive average was 50.1 points per game. High scorer for the season was Jean Hanson with 602 points in 23 games for a 26.1 point per game average. Judy Ogden was next with 450 points in 23 games for a 19.5 point per game average. Judy was also the toughest rebounder on the squad. Five seniors completed their competition this year. Their loss is gfwiiigz to be felt very much. They are Judy Ogden, Arlene Purdy, Jean Hanson, Audrey Cowlham and Myrna Lange. Prospects for next year are not too bright with a number of young aiils in line for positions. However, the Trojanettes for 1957-'58 could be pretty tough if they develop enough spirit and desire. -twenty-nine--
