FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of America is an integral part of the vocational agriculture course. It is an intra-circular activity having its origin and root in a different part of the school curriculum. It is based on the following motto: Learning to do, doing to learn, learning to live and living to serve. No national student organization enjoys greater freedom of self-government under adult counsel and guidance than the F. F. A. The foundation upon which the F. F. A. organization is built includes leadership and character develop- ment, sportsmanship, improved agriculture, organized recreation, citizenship and patriotism. The aims and purposes of the Future Farmers are to develop competent rural and agricultural leadership, to strengthen the confidence of farm boys and young men in themselves and their work, and to create more interest in the intelligent choice of a farming occupation. A further aim and purpose is the development of individual farming programs and establishment in farming. FCDOTBALL On August 24, thirty Odebolt and Arthur boys turned out for the first scheduled practice session of the i956 fooball season. Complying with custom, the first week of practice was mostly conditioning and fundamentals, and was hard work for everyone. On September l4, the impossible was performed, Wall Lake beat Ode- bolt for the first time in thirteen years, O to 27. The next Friday however, the boys bounced back to defeat Kingsley 20 to 6. ln the two following weeks the Trojans lost their homecoming game to a tough Moville team, 2 to I9, and easily rolled over Correctionville 26 to 0. On October l2 the Odebolt eleven suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Onawa, 7 to l2. ln the minds of many this was the outstanding twenty-six game of the season in spitetof the score. With a break or two the Trojans might have beaten Onawa, and it could easily have been the turning point of the season. The next four games spelled four defeats for the Trojans, as they entered into the tougher portion of their schedule. They lost to Manilla, 6 to 39, Sac City, 0 to 39, Ida Grove, O to 26, and Holstein, 6 to 49. Although a two wins-seven losses season is not considered successful, it must be remembered that Odebolt played nine very good teams, and that some very fine play was shown by the Trojans. Odebolt need not be ashamed of their 1956 football squad.
