Foreign Exchange STudenTs G-ENEVIEVE REES Lars Gyldenberg was OcTorara's ambassador from Denmark This year. Alfhough Denmark has hamburgers and oTher American Things, Lars said ThaT he found iT difficulT To adjusT. Lars did feel aT home on The soccer field and joined The Braves in Their winning season. He also belonged To The weighTlifTing club. In Denmark, Lars enjoyed gym- nasfics and handball. This handball, however, is noThing like our handball. Lars firsT became inTeresTed in being an ex- change sTudenT when a girl from California wenT To Denmark as one. He wanTed To Take a year off before he wenT back To Europe To sTudy Texfile engineering in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. James Massey were his hosTs during his sTay in The UniTed STaTes. Lars would like To Travel in The STaTes be- fore he reTurns To Denmark. My name is Genevieve, buT mosf of The kids and Teachers have called me Genny because of The difficulTy To pronounce my real name. l've been one of The Two exchange sTudenTs of This year and I would like To Tell you how l've appreciafed OcTorara This year. As l've Told a loT of you, life in Belgium is differenT. Nof only because I live in a differenT family, buT also because The way of life is differenT . . . indeed, The school is a loT beTTer here: you have sporTs, differenT acTiviTies, you may choose your classes and have a loT of oTher opporTuniTies To learn whaT you like because of The large amounT of courses ThaT we don'T have in my counfry. ln Belgium, I live wiTh my parenfs and my Two broThers and sisTers. We live really close Togefher in The village of RixensarT which is abouf 45 min- uTes from Bruxelles. Belgium is a small counTry of 40,000,000 people and sfands befween France and Germany. The counTry looks a loT like Penn- sylvania. Belgium is divided in Three parTs, The Norfh which speaks DuTch, The SouTh which speaks French, and The capiTal, Bruxelles, where we speak boTh French and DuTch. Some people do speak German in The very Soufh of The coun- Try. l've really enjoyed being here. l'm sad ThaT This program is only for one year, buT I hope ThaT l'll see you again. - Genevieve Q T 1, , 0 . , K x s. 9?
