T' ABOVE LEFT The wrestling team organized themselves into a club this year The president of the club was Emie Lind qurst The vice president was Larry Woodward, and the duties of secretary treasurer were assumed by George Walls RIGHT A sight which occurred more than once this year was that of the official awarding points to an opponent Lewis Parker is weighing Larry Woodward just prior to an important meet Both boys were very weight conscious throughout the season , and would often be seen on the scales 71 Sedan! The absence of Junior hlgh school sports 1n our school system has put Octorara in a position which might be considered detrimental to the future success of high school sports Our wrestling team is forced to wrestle against schools many times the size of Octorara This alone is a handicap but when these larger schools offer wrestling to their Junior high schoolstudents it becomes even more difficult for us to win against them For this reason the coaches and varsity players have taken on the responsibility of teaching and training young potentials in the sport of wrestling, We hope that in a few years our team can compete on an equal basis with many ofour opponents. Some of the many boys who attended the varsity wrestling practices this year took part in a junior high school tournament held for the seventh and eighth grade boys at the end of the season. 69 7
