Coaches Ed Kabakllan and George l-leebner drscuss some of the new wrestlmg rule changes and some possxble team strategy for a meet Wrestlmg has lmproved at Octorara rn the 1959 60 sports season a great deal over rts performances of past years Although there was still much to be deslred, thls year's term IS the best that has appeared on the mats ID the three years of wrestlmg at Octorara It IS dlffxcult to expect any group of boys, wxthm a few short years, to learn a sport whlch 15 relatwely new to them and to compete successfully agamst boys from blgger schools who have been wrestlmg for years In many lnstances our boys outdld themselves by conquermg some of the most dxffrcult op ponents The wrestlmg team was fortunate to have the able asslstance of Mr George I-leebner durmg the season Mr Heebner worked closely wxth Mr Kabakjxan throughout the wrestlmg campalgn ln devlsmg strategy and unexpected holds for our opponents The team proflted greatly from the experlences of these two flne coaches Some of the hrghllghts of the season came ln the persons of Emre Llndqulst, Larry Woodward and Lewls Parker Intotalmg the record of these three boys, we have thlrty fxve wms agamst slx losses and one t1e There IS no doubt ln anyone's mlnd that these three fme young wrestlers were the backbone of the team It IS unfortunate that the team dld not have three more boys of equal cal1ber to offset some of ltS weak spots The team's record for the season was flve wms agamst e1ght losses The competmon that the wrestlmg team faced was a combrnatlon of the best wrestlmg schools and schools newer m the sport, llke ourselves In observmg the team's scores, rt rs not too dlfflcult to see that there IS stlll a great deal of room for improvement lf Octorara wlshes to be a top contendmg school m the sport of wrestl mg At present tlme we are one of the smallest schools m our area competlng rn the sport of wrestlmg Many of our opponents are as much as two or three tlmes the slze of Octorara It IS not hard to see that they have a greater selectlon from thelr populatlon of boys to develop a good team Octorara IS plannmg to offset thxs dlfference by startmg the sport ln the Jamor hrgh school grades The team wlll be operatlng wlthout the servlces of three fme boys next year George Walls, Jim Gartley, and Emle Lmdquxst are graduatmg from hugh school Thls w1ll leave us wlth the largest group of experlenced wrestlers that the team has ever had to begun a season It IS 9Vld6Ht that lf the boys work hard and show the determmatlon and wlll to wm as they dld thls year, we wlll be nothmg but successful 64 ,ra X' .
