1 The Student Council opened its school ye ar when Gretchen Walter attended the National Student Council Convention at Schenley High School in Pittsburgh in June When school opened 1nSeptember, council members helped orient the new teachers and seventh graders The foreign exchange program was again sponsored in cooperation with the Amer1can Field Service This included raising Octorara s share of the money for sending two students abroad and helping finance the stu dent sent here The major activities of the council this year were the Get Acquamted Dance, the sports bus, the Juruor and Senior Christmas balls and Youth Week Vouth Week included speeches by Lucxo, Jerry and John, Slave and Revenge Days, a band concert, banjo player Jose Silva, a movie, THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS, the Talent Show, Color Day, and the Faculty-Varsity basketball game. These projects are in line with the main objective of the council: to strive to create a better working school.
