Jixnmie Hatter 11 SENIORS We, the seniors of 'LQ began our high school as innocent freshmen gawking through the halls of Ocina High with a horrid fear of the 'Office' in our hearts We soon found that familiarity was the best cure Now I would like to introduce those once gawking freshmen who have developed into the most dignified c1ass1nschooL First we would like to present the president of our class, George Tatyrek George is an outstandlng student k1bOu11HS studies and his L H Club work I feel sure George would like to make known publicly the place he holds in Mr Roesler's heart hear George tell it he has never studled a bit, but he has never made below an A Then there 18 that one and only Gerald Floyd better known as Hoot Now he's our boy---since no other class will claim him Hoot is very active in sports He plays basketball and can really throw the curves on the baseball fleld We believe he has taken ball playlng too seriously, because when the game is over he just stops throwing the curves and starts chaslng them He also showed the posslbillty of becom1ng a great actor when the seniors presmted their play Some day when Hoot becomes famous we will be proudtm say, 'I knew Mr Floyd when - Drusilla West is that sweet and shy member of our class W say, 'Shy' but we often wonder' She is always telling about going to church at Erick, but we wonder if its church at all Drusilla what shorthand would be without 'Miss West' for it seems everyone depends on her Barbara Cornelius is the only 'Mrs ' in our class She dimnt like paddling her own canoe so she got someone to paddle 1tRH'h6B when the senior's will is written we would like to take it upon ourselves to will to Wanda Smoot from Barbara the exclusive right to use the loudest voice in school and to express her opinionemy time and anywhere Jimmie Hatter turns all her attention toward Carter Hoot didn't quite understand her attitude during the senior play, but maybe he doesn't reallze that she might really be serious Jimmie has talent for becoming a great singer, if she doesn't listen to outside influence' Juanita Smoot is the member that really adds dignity to our class She is the quite type and doesn't boast of her progressin various lines, but from what we hear she seems to be giving certain people plenty of competltion Stay in there Juanita and even if you don't get him you fought a good battle' Julian Johnson is better known as lover boy He claims he cares nothing for the girls, but we know that deep down in his heart he loves every one of us Who else would have given sonmch chocolate candy for Christmas? Last but not least we have Delores Harris, who is not only an outstanding student in athletics, but also in her class work We see great possibilities of Delores becoming a detective though she lost her billfold in the chase she got 'im.andhe dRm't get away 12 i D 0 . . N I O The Junior Class of l9h8 L9 is one of the most outstanding classes in highschool, characterized by vitality and versatility, we are represented in all school activities In the process of organizing, we elected for our class officers, Helen Joy Adair, president, Norma Mcwurtry, vice president, Mary Jo Connelly, secretary Patti Dodson was chosen sponsor Followlng Miss Dodson's resignation, Janice Anchelle sponsored us for six weeks, then we became proteges of Mrs Retha Gray Our class, under the directlon of Mrs Gray, presented the first junior play, Ocina has had for several years, WJust Ducky', the story of two teen age girls and their adventures The junior class consists of eight boys and six girls Helen Joy Adair is that petite blues singer of our class I don't know why Helen prefers a blues song to any other kind Carrie Lou Baca well deserved the honor she received last year of 'The All Around Girl Carrie is active in all school activities She really gets around O K He were disappointed because Mary Jo Connelly wasn't elected noney to elect their queen At least, that is the only reason we could think of W C Davis? Well he is always ready with a smile Dub made a swell short stop on our baseball team He was our basketball captain, too And did he shine, especially when he got to crown the queen Mr Lewis, the only reason your baseball team lost a game was because Jerrol Harmon broke his leg so early in the season If it hadn't been for that streak of hard luck you would probably have won every gamelnot that you lost many anywayl The baseball team just couldn't have done without Jerrol even if he wasn't able to play And Gene Harris Say, what that six footer couldn't do under a basketball goal We know now why he didn't go out for baseball, he stored up all his energy for basketball and A H Club Not to mention the A+ in bookkeeping Bill Henderson was the third Bill to Join our class He mov ed here during the last six weeks of the first semesten therefore he didn't take part in any sports, But we know you would have been good, Bill 16 J U R S O .H basketball queen. It must have been that the seniors had more Monroe Hahn the boy who likes skatlng, almost belongs to the senior class but we are proud to name him on our roster L G Kelsey's name is next L G 's the boy with the musical talent With him and his guitar along, there's bound to be music And speaking of music there's Kathryn Kopecek We have never seen a girl learn to play so qulckly as Kathryn That baby grand piano Santa Claus brought her could have had somethlng to do with that Say, that Norma McMurtry is our top A H Club girl Yep, she is the one that takes the honors Those grades she has on her report card call for quite a few honors Next is 'Myne Smith He is our L H president The way he moves around on the basketball court, we'll never know how Mr Hagar did without him Je thlnk he is a good catcher on a base ball team Believe me it takes nerve to catch a ball when Billy Don is pitchlng It's kinda confusing having two Bill Thomases in our class Now there is Billy Don, he is our baseball pitcher If you want a strike out call on Bill He is a good man to call on if you need two points in a basketball game, too Bill 18 sorta' buggy trol The next Bill Thomas is Billy Ray He is another one of base ball catchers He not only can catch the ball but he can h1t it He made quite a few home runs last season The only reason we put Eva Lou Jootton's name last 13 because her name starts with a I and comes towards the last of the ABC's Well, that's the Juniors of l9L8 A9 Here is a little thought we would like to leave behlnd Ocina teachers lend an ear we'll be with you one more year, But as we pass we'll give three cheers To you who've helped us choose careers Here's to our sponsor, Mrs Gray, mo gave us parties and coached our pla She has a smlle and a laugh so gay M thlnk she's 'Just Ducky in every way 17 in A-H Club though fmeaning by that, he is enrolled in insect con- - D T . Then let me introduce to you the Freshmen Class To prove we are the biggest The class roll numbered twenty one at the opening of school Then three weeks later Jimmie Dale Shaver threw aside his cotton sack and trudged back to Join us bringing the total to twenty two But alas' The second six weeks we lost Mary, Mary Berry that is, to a neighboring school Perhaps the reason this class shows up with such superlative brllliancy is our choice of class officials To Wit President Darrel Horne Secretary Betty Horne We demonstrated our good nature at initiation Some fun, eh' Especially to the upper classmen, but we really had a good time, too, being called upon to exhibit our most worthy talents includ ing everything from Baby Crawl to JuJ1tsu and the latest dance steps However, we reaped our reward for our sportsmanship when we were entertained by the upper classmen at a party that evening On the night of December 25rd, we had an enjoyable Christmas party, chaperoned most graciously by our sponsor, Mrs Hassle Taylor Most everyone was there We had lots to eat but I'm afraid to say what happened after they had eaten L1nda's and Barb- ara' s candy Although we have been ignored by the Seniors, pitied by the Juniors, and snubbed by the Sophomores, we are still ugoing strong' and we intend to be the strongest class that has ever gone forth from Oolna High School No one, who is acquainted with the fresh- men, will doubt that this class is destined for great things Tearlsn and Wwisdom Teeth, two plays are being studied now for presentation, soon 19 F R E N Vice-Prssldent--Elbert Patton 8 l I - V H SOPHOMORE CLASS F RESI-I.MAN CLASS I Z 0 Frort Row Middle Row Baca Row SOPUOVORE3 Wylline Shook, Beulah Estes Bettv Bowman LS+P11P Joh son, M rlene Kelsev Loretta Ellison, Snren Angellv Vande Ho ne Joan Hood, La y llison, Floyd Fugglt, Gavle Todd, Eerl Ellis, Mrs Penn, Billie Lowrance CSDOUSOP5 Max Post Esrl Blenkenshlo, Edgar Harris, Bobbv UQUSPRFOJS, Gene Ward, Sidnev VenZsnd+ 'T Q A X4 Z- 'Q du' Y' Front Row Middle Row Back Row FRESHNEN Linda Rodgers, Christine Harris, Bettv Hor Wands Smoot, Petey Runnels Louise Hill, Dixie Gipson Inez Ellis, Gwendolyn New, Barbara Post, Edverd Estes Elbert Patton Darrel Horne, Jake Lowrance, Mary Berry, Urs Fox, Tl Kent Johnson, Dwwvne Stafford Charles Dewees Frankie Mayer, Robert Yarber, Jimmie Shaver Ravmond SHOOY Absent from oicture, Mrs Hassle Taylor, sponsor Z1 A.
