SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL W1th the begmmng of the season of 1947 48 there were hxgh hopes for a successful basketball squad Mr Hager was the coach for thxs season The team entered three tournaments, the Erick Invztatxonal the county tournament at Mangum, and the d1str1ct tournament at Mangum They were beaten out the f1rst game at Enck by Sayre, and the f1rst game 1n the county tournament by Eastvmew but they went to the f1na1s of the dxstrxct tournament and were beaten two poxnts by Eastvxew 36 to 34 The start1ng lme up for the Ocma Bearcats was Marv1n Sm1th Forward Rex Paty Guard Charles Tatyrek Guard Thomas Smoot Center The boys enjoyed a famrly successful season 1111111118 Grace Hatter was elected basketball queen for the season SENIOR GIRLS BASKE TBALL Ocma had a very strong g1r1s basketball team 1n 1946 47, w1nn1ng the d1str1ct tournament at Mangurn and go1ng on to the Reg1onal Tournament at Altus The g1r1s also had a good team durzng the 1947 48 basketball season Mr Quattlebaum was the coach They played mn three tournaments, at the Erxck Inv1tat1ona1 They were beaten only two pomts by Centralvue At the county tournament they went to the fmals, but were beaten by Mangum 1n an overtxme perlod At the Dxstnct tournament the g1rls were defeated 1n the sem1 f1nals by Mangum The startmg s1x for the g1rls were Irnogene Mayfxeld B1111e Berry Georgxa Baca Lou Ella Stafford Delores Harms Juamta Smoot Forward Forward Forward -Guard Guard Guard The g1rls won most of the games they played durxng the season ' ' ---------------- ----------------- N 0. 11 ------------------- -----------------U No. oo ------------- ------------------- No. 55 J'.
