SRNDRJFT1 OCEANODB HU SCHOOL OCSONQIDS, N. VOLU UBXUtt 2 3 We began on this long road jnany yfcars ago. It seemed na rpw, with naming to e, no problems Of fccfsion. All we could do was follpjy. W® must now choose our own paths. Each.poth is unique. „ ® e may intersect, some may n aral| y but each %ne hds a df rent vitw. As a butterfly emerges from its sheltering cocoon, it experiences a complete metamorphosis. So do our values change as we emerge from our childhood. We must look inside ourselves for our own values realizing not what we were, but what we are. Yesterday we scraped our knees and ate lollipops all day. This is our past and we cherish it. Today we live, we laugh, we cry, we love — but most of all we dream of tomorrow. Tomorrow is our hope, our chance to be. Senior. The word used to sound unreal. Just the other day (or so it seems) we were sophomores — no, juniors. Strange — I can remember thinking in elementary school what a long way we had to go. Well, that's the past and here we are — Seniors. Maturity has crept up to greet us with the present. Those of us who accept it will be challenged with many deceiving paths. The outcome of our decisions will be based on the work of yesterday, the molding of our minds. The decision to determine the future is now upon us. 7 8 9 10 11 THE WASHINGTON POST. QUICK MARCH. ' •o x ° -1V% e c e°. ® % The awful part of Senior year is filling out those terrible college applications. Wouldn’t it be nice if, instead of writing what you think they want to hear in those essays, you could write what you really want to say. 82 Director of Admissions Yale University New Haven, Connecticut 06520 Dear Sirs It has come to my attention that your school lacks one very important thing. Mel It does not seem possible for your academic processes to function in my absence. After reviewing several college catalogues, I have determined that there are only four schools worthy of my presence. Lucky for you, Yale is one of them. However, it is by no means my first choice. Yale's faculty seems passable and the facilities are adequate. I'm sure that with my superior academic, social, and athletic abilities I should be able to make the best of the situation. I have many interests, although I don't see what possible difference they make to you. What's important is that I would be an asset to Yale. My cutting humor, quick wit, and charisma would certainly brighten Yale's dreadfully dreary campus life. Perhaps I would even consider assuming the role of class president. My leadership qualities are truly superlative, although not yet fully exploited. Since entering high school, I have run several times in class elections. Much to the student body's misfortune, they were not mature enough to recognize my terrific diplomatic abilities. It is their loss. I have all faith that the students at Yale will act in a more rational manner. My grade point average would be sure to raise the college average, as well as bring recognition to Yale. As far as athletics are concerned, I intend to be the captain of the track team. It is the least I can do to help them. Two of my strongest qualities are my superb ability to be proficient at everything and my outstanding modesty. I have an extremely open mind. I believe that everyone has a right to his own opinion, especially me. In my opinion, my presence at Yale would be of great benefit to the University. This is not to say that I am certain I shall grant Yale the pleasure of my enrollment. There are several conditions which must be fulfilled. Firstly, I shall require a room with a private bathroom, furnished either in contemporary Swedish or French provincial design. Access to classes must be possible without the inconvenience of having to walk outside. Breakfast served in bed would be an added inducement. Furthermore, we must arrive at a satisfactory monetary agreement. I am quite confident that you will be able to come up with an appropriate offer. Now, gentlemen, I must take care of other business. My time is quite precious and I have already allotted you a large amount of it. I have taken great pains to send mimeographed copies of this letter to Princeton, Harvard, and Dartmouth. I hope you will contact each other and decide among yourselves who will be honored by my presence. Good luck and may the best school win. I would just like to make one last comment. Although I realize that there is a certain date on which regular applicants receive notification of your decision, I deserve special treatment. It is imperative that I receive the news as to which school wins my enrollment as soon as it is decided. If I am not contacted within a reasonable time, I may be forced to make other plans. I would hate to see you lose out. Because of my extraordinary qualifications, I feel that it would be to your benefit to put aside all other matters and look into my offer immediately. End it! “Leave it there; the cat’ll get it. Later. What are you doin’ tonight? Alright! Calm yourself.” Can you get into it?” Say what? What's playing at the Mini? Do it. Really. Come again? Put on some tunes.” That’s cool.” Far out, man.” Baaah!! Cranmars.” How was your weekend? Mellowing out. Yeah, right. r Isini Each person owes himself an obligation to make his life as interesting as possible. Boredom is a cop-out.” Therefore, being active, being involved and being a mover and a doer, are self-rewards which make for happiness. Doris Rosenberg Don't become a teacher.
