The Class of '69 steps out into the world and takes its place as members of society. I hope your education has prepared you to be contributing members of this society. You have been exposed to vast areas of knowledge, innumerable facts and myriad experiences. You have assimilated or rejected these concepts after a personal evaluation. You have been taught the need to respect the rights of others, to exist harmoniously with others, to use your talents and skills for others, and to help others less fortunate than yourselves. The true measure of your education, however, will not be made this June in your final examinations nor in the fall as you begin the next phase of your life. The true measure will not be recorded by any outside agency, employer or educational institution. The evaluation for the Class of '69 will be made in years to come by you, the individual members of this graduating class. You alone know what you are capable of contributing to your family, your job, your community and your world. You alone will know if you have given your best. I hope you will be able to realize your dreams and potential. Our society needs you, your contributions and your aspirations. But there can be no half-way for you; there must be total commitment by each individual to give the best you have . If you have learned this precept your education has been vital and valuable for you and the world. The Bethpage Invitational was one important meet they were all ready for as they topped second place for the third consecutive year. Coach Imbro looks forward to working with this talent next year, although many of the season's bowlers will be graduating. The sharpshooters suffered through an unsuccessful season which was, according to senior Ken Katz 'not as good as we thought we would have. The record of 3 wins and 11 losses reflects this idea. This year's squad, composed of seniors Dick Levitan, Ken Katz and captain Randy Beck will be leaving. High shooter Randy Van Winkler and Mike Strauss are both juniors and will return. Spitz This year's basketball team reached heights far above those that Oceanside Cagers have achieved in the last five years. The Sailor team, seemingly unspectacular, was aided by a tremendous combination of teamwork, coaching and spirit, to make up for a lack of height. The fine skills of the cagers, not apparent at the beginning of the season, made them one of the most talked about teams in the county. Led by captain and high scorer Jim McNamee, the Sailors finished with a brilliant 16-1 record. The cagers were handed their lone loss by Uniondale in mid-season. This loss was avenged in the last game of the season, in which the Sailors beat the Uniondale Knights by a decisive 54-44 score and a tie for the Division I championship. The Sailors were paced by outstanding ball handler Bill Happ, Paul Lenok, the leading rebounder, and center Bill Sheron, all seniors. Junior Josh Most rounded out the starting team, and was a real asset in outside and lay-up shooting. Juniors Neal Rosenberg and Andy Manning also contributed outstanding performances. A heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Southside in the play-offs stopped the Sailors short, but not before OHS fans had a chance to appreciate their talents. The crowning moment of the season came when captain Jim McNamee was voted onto the South Shore Team. Outstanding juniors and some up-and-coming junior varsity men should make Sailor power felt again next year. Coach Jan deserves a special commendation for his thorough, devoted coaching. J.V. Strong favorites to cop their third consecutive Indoor County Championship, the Sailors literally fell to third place. John Tansey began the meet with a leap of 6' 2Va in the high jump, a school record. The relay team of Mike Fasolo, Gary Statham, Fred Benanti, and Artie Sillman placed a disappointing third. South Shore Champ Bernie Hrubala, running in first place and only 100 yards from victory in the 300 yard dash, was tripped from behind, fell, and finished sixth. No foul was called. Mozille, L. Markowitz, T. Yetter Trackmen Strive to Regain County Crown Tradition tells us that the OHS track team is almost unbeatable in dual meet competition; so does their record of 136 wins and 3 losses. But if powerhouse teams like Massapequa and Sewanhaka have their say, Oceanside could increase the loss column. Past successes have been achieved because our track teams have had no weak points. However, this year, the field events are weak. Co-captain Gary Statham in the pole vault, John Tansey in the high jump, and Artie Sillman in the broad jump, are the bright spots in field. The running events look strong. Reigning South Shore Champ Bernie Hrubala, running the hundred with Mike Kantrowitz, and much improved Steve Fleishner running the 220 make OHS formidable opposition in any meet. A flock of great juniors, Billy Paul, Andy Rosenberg, and Bob Shaw will provide quite an attack in the 440. Seniors Tom Yetter and co-captain Steve Britt are running to break the mile, two mile, and half mile records. Another asset is senior Jeff Kalins, a versatile and durable distance runner. County championship hopes hinge on the individual successes of Hrubala, Fleishner, Tansey, Statham, Britt, and Yetter, who all must have great closing seasons in order to overcome their strong opposition. Co-captoins Gary Statham and Steve Britt lee Markowitz and Ed Ferrara put the shot 182 jav 184 Senior Directory AARON, MICHELLE-DECA. ABRAMSON, CRISSE—Volleyball, Tennis, Softball.
