Back Row: Bill Svozil, Bob Jamieson, Tony Byers, Gary Gabin, Greg Pera, Denis Murray, M i ke Hefner. The 1977 Varsity Wrestling Team wrestled im- pressively in the pre-season defeating Burling- ame and MPL Champion Crestmoor. Entering the league season a rash of injuries began to plague the Shark's efforts to repeat as champions, but one proud effort after another brought the league record to 6 wins and no losses after Oceana's lop-sided defeat of Terra Nova by a score of 48-14. This set up the annual battle between Oceana and Half lllloon Bay for the NPL title. Although wrestling injured, the Sharks put forth a fine effort, losing to the Cougars 34-17 and ending the season in 2nd place. In the NPL league finals the grapplers again fin- ished second to Half lVloon Bay with Cliff Gosse C98 lbs.l, Terry Long C130 lbs J, Chuck Wagner C136 lbs.J, and Bob Jamieson C148 lbs.D, tak- ing the individual championships in the respec- tive classes . Cliff Goose, 1977 League Champ advanced to the Central Coast Section, Region 1 Tournament where he also placed first. Continuing to the Central Coast Section Championships, Cliff won 3 out of 4 matches to take third . His 3rd place finish enable him to earn a spot in the CIF Cali- fornia State Wrestling Tournament in Sacramento .
