SEAHAWK SOPHOMORES This year ' s sophomore team had hiuh expeclalions, but were unsure of them as well, as the season prn- j;rc5 Red. these expectations grew. The season started otT on a fine note winnuiK the Ocean View Sophomore Tournament. Dan Naulty and Marrelo Danze were named to the all-tourney team and Craij; Kice was named M.V.P. of the tournament. This was the first time an O.V. sophomore team was entered in the O.V. J.V. tourna ment. hut this team did not hack away fnim the challenge. With an outstanding performance, ihey placed 6th in a 16 team tournament, with Mike Frohn l eing named to all-tourney team. During Chri . the the Edis going into league play, hopes were high. This confidence helped carry the team to a 6-4 league record. The improvement of this team was tremendous and was shown hv an overall record of 17-8. But wins and losses aside, this team developed confidence in themselves and I also Iwlieve they discovered some rif the positive aspects of sports even if they did not achieve the result they desired. Finally. I wish to commend these young athletes on a very fine and productive seasfm. JU BASKETBALL The 1985-86 J.V. team, with a record of 24-0. was the first team in Ocean View history to go undefeated, on any level. Other highhghta of their season were winning the O.V. J,V. Tourney, the South Lake Tahoe Tourney, and the Sierra High School Tourney. Several of the players received Sunset I eague honors: Todd — MVP; Jim Anderson, Doug Rice, and Geoff Graves - All- League; Steve Harris and Paul Honorable Mentions. Coach Holmes commented that the team ' s unity on and off the court con- tributed to their success. He added, They are enthusiastic players who love the game and have lots of pride for their school. They were a hard-working team and a great group of guys to coach. SUNSET FRESHMEN Sunset Freshmen The 1985 86 Sunset freshmen team, under the leadership of Coach Wayne Young, finished their season with a 17-7 overall record. They were first in the Sunset league. Other highlights of the season included their over- time victories over Foun- tain Valley and Edison. In- dividual honors were received by Todd Norman (All Tournament in Los Alamitos Tournament, Most valuable player of the sunset league.) John Moore and Ted Pelonis — All-League honors. Most valuable Player on the team: John Moore and Tim Pelonis, most improv- ed was John Pruess. Coach Young commented, The team did a good job pulling it together for league. Everyone contributed, it was an overall team effort.
