SURFING ■j i; RIDING HIGH AND HANGIN- The 1985-86 season witnessed the emergence of Ocean View as a top team in surf competition. We compiled our best record ever, finishing in a tie for second in the Sunset League (3 wins, 2 losses) and in a tie for first in the Orange League (8 wins, 1 loss). Our top surfers also competed in the NSSA Teeun Season competitions held from San Diego to Ventura, always finishing in the top five and earning a place in the playoffs that will be held in May. Our team had more talent and depth this year than ever before. Our top surfers were Captain; Tim Bruner, BiU Lloyd, Mike Ryan, Erik Bruner, Matt Ryan, and Robby Haugen. In addition, Ocean View has one of the top kneeriders: Phil West. For the first time in history, Ocean View had three girl surfers: Chrissy Cullen, Sally O ' Neil, and Donna Hayward. These three captured many points for league competitions. A new division arose in surfing com- petition this year: body surfing (also call- ed boogie boarding). Robby Haugen dominated in almost every contest. O.V. has high hopes for next year ' s team. Although we ' ll be losing some valuable seniors, most of the team is very young, including such freshmen standouts as Erik Bruner, Matt Ryan, Robby Haugen, Mike Gomez, and Shawn Crad- dick. Without a doubt, the Seahawks will be a surfing power for the years to come. 104 Surfing f MV.

We had two full teams for all dual meets and invitationals. The Varsity team was led by returning runners Akemi Royer. Shannon and Kathy Karpel, and Erica Whistler. Strong support came from Deb- bie O ' Brien, Maureen Rauls and Danielle Martinez, all freshmen showing much poten- tial. A successful season seems to be a promise that should be fulfilled with a strong chance at CIF. All varsity team members look forward to another year of a cohesive unit.
