W dmhg; 8:20 AM. The first bell rings. Three double doors open and hundreds of students crowd into the halls of Ocean Springs High School. Laughter, moans, and muffled words take the stu- dents down the hall in front of the trophy case toward the rows of metal lockers. The trophy case reminds us that other students in other years have walked theses halls. Today is only one of 185, the 1989 is only 0 Does that ean that ur little piece of his ory isntt important? Mrs. Victory llmade-do in an old shop area while she waited for the science lab to be remodeled. 4 7 Opening These were common remarks as students tried to find their rooms on Day 1. By Day 2 almost all the confusion had disappeared. By Day 3 everything was normal. Flexible students and teachers ad- justed quickly. 1989 was the year of accreditation and OSHS was ready! Shanda Flurry looks lost on her first day. Wonder if she ever found her class? The teachers began their year with a Hkick-off lun; cheon. The paper staff is sponsored by Mrs. Terri Van, who spends much of her time with her students, researching and organizing. The Hounds Tale is printed every three weeks. This year's paper staff wasnit afraid to exercise their right of the first amendment by producing articles they deemed necessary, whether they were controversial or not. Although students receive no credit, they do benefit from the ex- periences they learn and use them in high school, college, and for the rest of their lives. Rushing to meet a deadline, Tanya Payton develops a picture, not knowing what to expect This yearls Annual Staff came together to form an original yearbook, while still keeping their sanity. For the yearbook staff members, it took a great deal of responsibility, dedication, and lots of their free time to create something youlll always remember. Under the supervision of Mrs. McNabb, 2 juniors and 9 seniors worked through the year to produce all of the pieces involved for the 88389 school year. Working with the yearbook isnlt all fun and games, even though it may appear to be. It re- quires a great deal of planning, which people donlt realize. Some of the duties include laying out pages, writing and typing copy, shooting and printing photographs, and at the same time, try- ing to capture the spirit of OSHS in an original, creative way. In- stead, scoring was by points given by such things as behavior, creativity, thought processes and dress. Throughout the state there are 32 schools competing, with each team competing six times. Mr. Oscar Jordan and Ms. Martha Carson give the group points as they prepare for their tttrial. $5 i Mr. Scott instructs the students in trial procedure during a practice session.
