Coaches Haack and Prohaska stated, This is the best bunch of boys we have ever handled. This team did not always win on the scoreboard, but always won on the gridiron -it is not always the score which decides the better team. Our boys were always in the game physically, spiritually, and morally. In Memoriam GEORGE BOWMAN November brought with it the sorrowful news of the death of Mr. George Bowman. This man gave hundreds of Ocean City High School students a background of chemistry seldom found in high school teaching. His enthusiasm and tremen- dousistore of knowledge inspired even those not scientifically inclined. Because he did not teach last year, Mr. Bowman was not as well-known to the student body as in previous years, but the few months he was with us endeared him to our hearts. lt seems only fitting that we, the Class of 1962, give this yearbook in the lasting memory of Mr. George Bowman. s Q. ffm? i Eg .K gg 'X' 5' 4 R X V LKf'gs AW... Part of its operating costs are donated by local clubs and organizations, the rest are accumulated through membership dues. Stu- dents in Ocean City take the Center for- granted, never stopping to think what they would do with- out it. The Center', has become the nucleus of social life. Under the guiding influence of Don Pileggi and George Loder, the Center is the biggest reason for the minimum of juvenile de- linquency in this community. We are all thankful and appreciative of their efforts. Whether you want to dance, play darts or ping- pong, watch television, or just relax, the 6'Center,' is the place to go. Youth needs such a place to be out -of the critical eye of adults, in an air of responsibility and pride because they feel the '4Center', belongs to them. We are very fortunate in that our town realizes the need for and con- dones such a venture. The yearbook staff offers a word of gratitude to the people responsible for the Center, its beginning, and its growth. Youth Center Board Members: FIRST ROW: G. Siegfried, J. Bello, R. Montagna, B. Basketball The 1961-62 basketball season unveiled one of the most exciting teams in New Jersey, the Ocean City Red Raiders. Led by Coach Dixie Howell and their aggressive captain ,lerry Fad- den, the Raiders proved to be really tough com- petitors. This year's tremendous record was the result of a great uteami' effort. ln no skirmish did one player dominate the game, but rather the five Raiders on the court and the players on the bench combined to consistently bring home the victory. Ocean City once again re- tained the Cape-Atlantic League crown as well as played sensational ball in the N.,l.S.l.A.A. Tournament. Recognition is certainly due to Dixie Howell and all the members of the var- sity squad. We can not overlook the fine play of the ,l.V. team, led by Coach John Camarote, or the Freshman team, coached by Mr. William Kupersmith. These two squads with their up and coming players will, undoubtedly, provide Ocean City Raiders with winning teams for years to come. The tankmen built up a reputation as having the umost powerful relay team in South Jersey. It is amazing that a team so recently developed was able to go on and win the relay in the State meet.
