Gzrls' Basketball I-IEN the call was sounded for practice for the Basketball Team over forty girls appeared of whom a large number were Freshmen It seemed for a time that our squad would be enormous as everyone was trying their hardest to make the team When our coach Miss Reichly finally did select the varsity squad sixteen girls had successfully made it of whom one was a Freshman Great things were of last year Our first gamc was with Cape May played on our own floor It certainly looked bad for us for a while At the half the score was 23 21 in favor of Cape May But our star forwards Blair Torbert and Theodora Teti were working hard and their skill was not to be beaten The next half Ocean City scored 13 points to their 4 Two weeks went by before our next game during this time we were prac ticing day and night Vineland girls were our opponents and we had quite an exciting game At first the girls were evenly matched Ocean City would make a basket then Vineland But when we came back on the floor after the half we showed our superiority by finishing the game 36 19 Our engagement with I-lammonton and the return game with Cape May wtre decisive victories for Ocean City The fray with Tuckerton requires little mentioning We simply wiped Tuckerton off the map by making the score 73 2 Sixty tu.o i - 'cf .
