The snappy. highstepping majorettes, whose pzctures arc- on the preceding page, and the band. resplendent in new uniforms, added much through their formations to making the football season a success. Needless to say, the loyal color bearers did their part. The picture the band made on Armis- izce Day. standing in a cross formation. will long he remembered. The band. under the leadership of lid Heilak- lea, w ith planet linsign, Hal Peterson, and Mary Gra- ham assisting. presented two peppy assemblies for the school--one in the fall and another in the syring. Near the end of the season. the band was glad to welcome six new members who soon be- tinne ,in indispensable part of the organization. As soon .is marching season was over. the or- chestra, under the direction of janet Ensign, got under way. Rehearsing began immediately for the assembly program which was given in the spring. The orchestra also played one night for the senior playg the band, the other. The bands concert numbers have been of varied types and styles. ranging from S. Bach's religious choral, .Weep-er'.i' llvzlktf. to an arrangement of blues and modern dance rhythms called Rbrzpf .wcfj in Blue. by George Gershwin. Band mem- bers will not forget the obstacles encountered in such pieces as Moussorgskys The firm! Citric of Kjgzg the march from the illifimry Suite in lf flat. by Holst, and Ferde Grofe's fill Ibe Trail, The lat- ter piece probably was the most difficult. as well as the most enjoyed number tackled by the band during concert season Much emphasis has been placed this year on singing. The boys organized an ensemble which met fourth period every VC ednesday. A mixed chorus of the whole senior high was started the second semester. meeting the fourth period on Mondays. Real progress has been made by the thirty mem- bers in the Boys' Glee Club under the leadership of Mr. Burns. of the conservatory. and three student teachers, Mr. johnson. Mr. Henderson. and Mr. Smith. The boys' club united with the girls' club in presenting a very enjoyable Thanl-tsgiving pro- gram. They again united in a very beautiful Christmas program. The highlight of this pro- gram was the pageant directed by Miss Merthe. which told the Christmas story, with .lane Smith portraying Mary. Vincent Hart as joseph. and Felix XVhite as narrator. l'nder the supervision of Miss Madgsicl-t. with .lean XY'illi.ims. lietty Detweiler. and Kathryn XY'ahlgren, Helen lrish. and .loyce Reynolds assist- ing. the Ciirls' Cilee Club has had a very successful year. livery Tuesday and Thursday after school in the auditorium. the club could be seen rehearsing for one of the several programs put on during the year. Besides co-operating with the Boys' Glee Club on various programs. the girls sang in Febru- ary. for the Youth Fellowship Convention. The girls' ensemble put on programs for several organizations and groups around town: the D. A. R. Christmas meeting, the Exchange Club Christmas meeting. the Methodist Church service, December 22. and the G. A. A. mid-winter banquet. The ensembles carols over the loud speaker downtown were also enjoyed by many people.
