CASE AGAINST THE SENIORS Exhibit A for the defendants i11 the case of the State of Ohio versus the Class of 1937 of Oberlin High School, charging useless waste of time, disturbance of the peace of mind, and non-education propaganda, is nothing more or less than extracts from the diaries of various members of the class cited hereby: SEPTEMBER 17, 1934 I bear Diary, Started school today as a Soph-O-More! You should see the ducky new coach! Tall, handsome, afnd a football hero! tVe're all taking Manual Training now! Thrills and more thrills! In fact, two darling coaches. Kepler is just as cute as Ott. Scratched my hand in gym and he bandaged it. Ain't life sulnpin? . . . Helped get stuE for a pep rally bonfire-us Sophs really got the most points, but Ziilllll favored the Jrs .... tVell,- I won the class election again unanimous, practically. They elected Camille, vice-pres., Eddie Bartlett, sect., Bill Henkes, treas., Mim Johnston and Gorske, social chairmen, and Miss Hammond, advisor-to help me-as tho' I needed it! Persons and Gorske-the poor little Sophs!-had to walk all the way home fI'Olll 'Cham-e -Hi-Y initiation--poor feet and other extremities .... O-Hi-O had a bike hike. It was marvelous pedaling against the wind and then cooking slipper out-of- doors. There must be something in what they say about getting back to nature .... 6 VVhat a shock! We tied Bellevue for the L. B. F. championship and besides held Elyria to a scoreless tie . . . Arc ure cum' good? or should I say the team? Celebrated victory by having a snake dance . . . Between halves of the Bellevue game the athletic field was dedicated to Mr. Morris . . . The G. A. A. girls went to the football banquet. Are we ever emancipated women! ! lt was great fun, but some of the speeches were dry. VVonder if anyone will ever give me a gold football? . . . Had lille club . . . loads of work. but it's worth it. Ginny had the car so went for a spin in the rain . . . You should see the new scoreboard i11 the gym: it runs by electricity. Skipper has gone, but the new teacher. Miss Clevenger, is darling! More personal- ity! I'm going out for speedball, a crazy old game, combination of football, soccer, and basketball. . . Dog-gone it Miss Hammond changed llly seat in homeroom again! Seems as if I'm the only one she ever catches . . . Oh, well, some day I'll be a senior tmaybe!l and then they'll see . . .! l'm going to be i11 the first row at assembly every tlllle, and I'1l take years to leave homeroom just like the present seniors-and maybe I might con- descend to look at the Sophomores. Swing your partners -ala mand left-Pork sure was calling them at the Soph party tonight-standing on the shelf in the library, too. Gorske cooked the eats-or partly cooked the hamburgs. lt was our first successful social event . . . t'Got to go to a debate. Clare Reinhard was the only Soph to debate, but Lucille a11d l had a wild time watching. Betty Wendt was elected to go to the Home Ee. Convention at Columbus. . Met loads of girls, stayed at a girls' dorm, saw all tl1e buildings, banquet swell . . . have enjoyed Citsemod this year. particularly getting Thanksgiving baskets ready, Christmas party t'or poor children, Anne of Green Gables -and making elephants for the Carnival ! . . . Got my numerals at G. A. A. banquet . . . Dorothy Gutman and Camille Skalak were the only Sophs-Gosh, I wonder if I'll ever rate a split O? The grand and glorious 0-Club Carnival! Yippie! I was awfully poohed after tumbling, but it was loads of fun dancing with him! There were all sorts of prizes at the booths where you threw darts at balloons, pounded nails, a fish pond, miniature golf, etc. The Glee Clubs gave the operetta, Rnmpelstiltskinf' tonight. Jim Jones certain- ly made a hit jumping out from behind toad stools. Have Spring Fever pretty badly, but still cgruins worry me-they aren't so very far off. SEPTEMBER 16, 1935 Well, another year to do or die in . . . funny without the seniors . . . grand to see our class again . . . I do feel older! Class elections today! Bus, of course, is pres. He deserves it! Shirley-vice, .lane-sect. Persons is treasurer--l'ork and Ginny are social cliairmcn. Called in to Mrs. WVarner's oflice-and got an iiwitation to Fine Arts-gosh, how did it ever happen! Lil, Jane. Fam, Dorothy Gutman, Marg and Lucille, Thomas, and Helen Youngless made it, too! 0-Club gave the best a111ateur hour for assembly-Jane Phillips won SP3-boy can that girl ever dance! ' Sold candy again today at the game-honestly, I do feel simple sloshing around in the mud-trying to make change-no cinch-no doubt it's a good cause-for a grand prom. WVe won the L. B. F. championship for football again-beat YVillard to do it. That makes two in a row for tl1e team and Ott. Ilet's pray for a third. Pork, Ji111, Babe, Buss, and Bill played on the team this year . . . had a swell banquet with plenty to eat and more gold footballs for the girls . . . l'm getting disgusted. lVorried stiff-we had psych. testis this morning-now the whole world will know what a dim wit I am . . . O-High came out today with a roto-gravure section . . . smooth, I'd say. The paper really rates now that it is a member of N. S. P. A. tNa- tional Scholastic Press Assln.J Whole day spent debating with Bellevue and Port Clinton-luncheon at noon- more debates. Brrrr-had a man for assembly who talked on snakes-talk keen, but he illus- trated with live poisonous snakes! ! G. A. A. Pageant, Past, Present, and Future in Girl's Sportsv given before the Red a11d Blue game-game a tie-the reds should've won!!! Some one stole our candy! How are we Juniors ever going to make any money . . . Varsity Club turned snooty with a dinner dance-and with a bit of unusual luck I was invited-good time! At last Miss Clevenger has started a dancing class-and fellas like me get a break -perhaps I'll be able to take a girl to the prom. This was a day-Glee Club and Orchestra VVQIII to Bellevue for L. B. F. Musical Festival-combined glee clubs and orchestras surely sounded plenty O.K.-danced afterward 'til 11 . . . tire blew out on way home . . . even that wasn't bad . . . Band went to Willard . . . good looking dames, ol1 yeah! Startled the world with new uni- forms . . . changed fro111 capes to navy military coats with brass buttons and gold braid-white oflicers caps-white trousers and for girls too.
