W.t..w$.mwwt e . In 1974 Oberlin completed the third library in its history. Before the Seeley G. Mudd Learning Center, it built the Spear Library in 1885, and the Carnegie Li- brary in 1908. Seeley Greenlead Mudd, a physician, philanthropist, and friend to higher education estab- lished the Seeley G. Mudd Fund. The assets of this fund, some forty million dollars, are to be used in the construction of build- ings on leading American col- lege and university campuses. Even during his lifetime Muddts generosity was notable. He gave over ten million dollars to in- stitutions of higher learning be- fore his death in 1968. Oberlin's learning center, a structure with a floor space of some 200,000 square feet, was designed by Warner, Burns, Toan and Lunde, Architects, of New York. 11
