Cberlin Perspective Weather Oberlin has two seasons, winter and summer- they come on alternate days. Spring rains, however, are with us at any time. During freshman year, when this is novel to most newcomers, a wide variety of all- too-often vain rain raiment is noticeable when a young adult, released from his mother for the first time, believes his ingenuity waterproof, Later, he be- comes hardened and ignores the light downpour, feel- ing that the dewy deluge would wet him anyway. His philosophy comes to lie between variety is the spice of life and when a nice day comes one really appre- ciates it-no need to turn on the lights in the stacks. When prostituted Power of Positive Thinking lie., whistling Oh What a Beautiful Morning in the rainl fails, one transfers. -Dave Robinson lt's going to be a long, cold winter.

Oberlin Perspective: Clothes Oberlin is a far cry from the college where a boy didn't make a fraternity because he wasn't wearing hand-knit argyles. Any compulsion on our campus concerning dress is an inner compulsion, governed by standards of comfort, warmth, practicability, cost, and personal likes and dislikes. Hence there is a wide variety of clothing to be found, and a comparably flexible standard of what-should-be-worn-to-what- function. Some Oberlinians like to be different lfrom the country in generall and distinguish themselves by beards, renovated raccoon coats, or anything that is the unusual. Others tend to follow Ivy League and fashion magazine styles. The majority of the students fall into degrees between these two extremes, and stick mainly to sweaters, knee-socks, and khaki trou- sers. The cases of slight color-blindness or ignorance of the stripes-and-checks-don't-mix rule only add to the casual and relaxed atmosphere. The clothes of an Oberlin student may reflect his personality, but he is neither judged nor criticized for what he wears. -Susan Touschard Courtesy of lvlademoiselIe!Bob Goodman Even the normal collegiate attire is acceptable.
