Oberlin Perspectivez Classes Some say that classes are to be attended if there is sufficient personal or external coer- cion and o lack of more pressing engagements, while others think thot classes are the redeem- ing feature of on otherwise uninteresting ex- istence. But the fact is inescapable that classes ond preparation for them, by desire or necessity, become the focal center of college life. A degree of discipline is instilled by or after the first terrifying blue-book period and remains in various forms. Traditionally this academic terror serves to prevent wasting time with busy-work during sophomore year lin order to pursue the current scheme of out- side readingsl , then by necessity the discipline is again modified to attain some balance be- tween competing assignments, accumulated non-ocademic obligations, and non-class study. Remove classes, close the librory, and -despite comments on how nice Oberlin would then become-we would all be bored within a week! -Maggie Roper Logic moves out into the sun with Professor Ellis and his Moth 3 class. Visiting Professor Knapp from England conducts on informal seminar in his home -not about hobby horses!
