Jobs Do you have an affinity for garbage? Or perhaps small children are more to your liking. At Oberlin there are jobs to suit even the most discriminating in- dividuals. For those who seek to descend briefly from Oberlin's intellectual heights, there are jobs in Saga's homey kitchens, or for the girl with blossoming mater- nal instinct, there is a wide selection of town and pro- fessors' progeny to be sat for. lf one is interested in learning while helping others to learn, he may become a tutor or a reader, Work in local restaurants or stores or odd jobs in the dorm can also help fill a chronically empty pocket. -Kathy von Vechten The receptionist will dress appropriately for business. She will attend to all matters of personal grooming before coming on duty. No wonder waiters wish that we'd eat faster. Reserve books are gone by 7220!

More interesting than a board job is an assistantship in lab-particularly if it's all en francais. A floor boy's lot is not a happy one. Oberlin Perspective: Since nobody else is fool enough to get up at 6:40, breakfast workers find time to study on the job.

Oberlin Perspective: Study lt is scarcely enlightening to hear that there is a real student concern over and varied attitudes toward the role of extracurricular activities on the college campus, ranging from the feeling of the BMOC that they are necessary and obligatory to the scholarly purist's rejection of them as extraneous, Yet, and naturally enough, at Oberlin there is no analogous basic questioning of the value of study. Some striation exists on the seconda ry question of how much to study, but it is not Shall l study? but the complementary Shall l participate in extracurricular activities? which is debated. The very name The Associated Students of Oberlin College indicates our role most definitively. Motives for desiring an education in- volve a number of factors, ranging from the passive acceptance of a role through the mere yearning for knowledge to the ulterior lin ivory tower cantl de- sire for economic gain, but the drive to acquire an education is omnipresent and sometimes startlingly strong. Extracurricular activities may give their yearly quota of escape, accomplish or not their yearly goals, and take their yearly toll of study time, but education is never forgotten. -Jim Owens But who's got time to lounge? The really industrious head for the reserve room
