In Lorain the Community Service Com- mission found a completely different story. The Yis were asked to help run a recreation unit set up in an old store by the Puerto Rican steel workers. Here, as at the Elyria Housing Project and first semester at the Elyria Crippled Children's Hospital, the Y group led recreation and clubs, and kept the equipment in repair. In town a YW committee helped at the Haulk Home and the Welcome Home for elderly people. There they read to the pa- tients, wrote their letters, and ran their er- rands. Also in town the Commissions worked afternoons at the Prospect and Pleasant Street schools leading outdoor recreation in- cluding Intramural football and softball in good weather, indoor crafts in stormy. The local Hi-Y was completely renovated by the YM committee. The plan of this com- mittee as of all others was to turn over as much of the work as possible to the partici- pants themselves. As the boys took over the responsibility their interest in the club in- creased and so did the membership. Similar jobs were done by Ylers in the local Cub and Girl Scout organizations. ing-his 'X
