Seaman' s Sturdies WILLIAM SEAMAN Dzrector of Admissions Smoothly runs the machinery of the Admis- sions Department in annually deciding the fate of some five hundred Oberlin freshmen. It is in this office, luxurious with dictaphones, that our Alma Mater's best foot is put for- ward to potential students and everyone else. Genial, Bill Seaman is top man as director and is ably assisted by Field Secretary, Curt Anderson, and Al Bailey, the man who puts Oberlin on the map as Publicity Manager. The feminine touch is supplied by various secretaries and stenographers who arrange interviews for people with Mr. Seaman, patiently give out information about hours and courses, send out all sorts of letters, col- lege entrance blanks, personal qualification blanks, and bulletins. As freshmen their women wore long skirts and gazed in awe at the football teamg as seniors their women wore short skirts and Leap-Year-dated the foot- ball team and faculty alike. Refusing to be bound by tradition they agitated for a longer Thanksgiving holiday, installed a slot in the libe for pre-7:45 reserve books, and smoked indoors under Carnegie's watchful gaze' until the arm of the law intervened. With incredible fortitude they survived a series of conventions and conferences ranging from labor, world peace, and future vocations to Wl1at Oberlin Womeii Do in Summer . And in May of their senior year, after weary months of playing bridge and dickering for tents and elephants, they staged a Mock Convention which will provide propaganda for the Admissions Office for years to come.
