THE SECOND ff .V 55.17 ffl 1. ' C 'f ,- 'g g W 4, lc' u. HUNDRED YEARS AT OBERLIN Oberlin is a lady of many aspects. ln autumn she is gypsy-like, ruddy-faced and black-haired, with the smell of woodsmoke and autumn leaves upon her. ln winter she is queenly and delicate, robed in white lace and ermine. In spring she is dewy-eyed and radiant, glamorous with the eternal allure of Spring. And then, there is always the Oberlin of rain when, damp and disheveled, she is like nothing so much as a worn-out washerwoman. Oberlin is a lady of many moods. She sometimes is given to hard study and serious thought, cultural ex- pansion and intellectual growth. At other times she turns to gaiety, laughter, and sport. Often she is the Oberlin of deeper friendliness, of joyous communion of soul with soul, and the more joyous union of soul with God. Also, like the best of friends, she some- times frowns and is gloomy. And haps a which is the Oberlin that we shall keep? Per- larger, all-embracing Oberlin-an Oberlin of growth and play, of learning and labor, of light mo- ments and dark, of shadows strengthening the sun- shine-an Oberlin composite of her many moods and aspects, but always with a sure and imperious claim upon our love- -Laurence Perrine, '37.
