OUR from the allotted three score and ten may seem insigniicant, un- less they be spent in Oberlin. These are the only years, perhaps, in which you are on the inside looking out, as did Scrooge, at the past, the present, and the world that is to come. The present seems most vital-rec tomorrow night, that col- umn for the Review, bluebook on Mon- day. But without a reminder, these two will fade. The Hi-Ofl-li is a memorandum of one of these years. The staff has jotted down for you reminders of the day it didn't rain, the insane moment before a touchdown when you mashed your best hat, the kind prof who passed you with a D+. This is Oberlin, and the Hi-O-Hi its record. May its pages be thumbworn, and its cover cover never dusty.

ATERIALS and an idea a man needs to build something. Mater- ials: cement, camel's hair, red paint, rusty tin cans, ideas: a television radio, a cure for cancer, a bridge across the Hudson. Witli these two essentials-materials and ideas-man can build whence he chooses. ln the Hi-O-Hi for June, 1937, we have used our materials-paper, photography, printer's ink-and our idea-a yearbook that features and preserves the action and activity of an Oberlin year-and put the two together, retaining what we thought good in yearbooks of the past but not let- ting them dictate arrangement, pictures, color, type, that would shade our idea, so that our purpose could be realized as full as possible with the materials we have to work with.
