A TIME OF TRANSITION - Pres. C.B. Rock The nineteen seventies have produced marvelously for Oakwood College: a library, an academy building, a natatorium, a religion-education complex, several major additions to our dormitories, an inner college tutorial service, a chaplainis office, an office of church missions, the literature industry, a printing press, a radio station, the coming of Harris Pine Mill - and the list goes on and on. However, all of the physical and academic advances that we have mentioned and all else that the seventies have brought have contributed to the one overriding purpose and mission of the College -the truly outstanding event for which the seventies shall bepremembered - the dramatic upsurge in enrollment and graduation of students. The move from 550 students and 65 graduates in the 1970-71 school year to 1,275 students and 200 prospective graduates in 1979 is truly significant. When it is all said and done, you, the students, are our raison dietref' Your parents, your conferences, your church members, our alumni, and even our government deserve the credit for giving you and your predecessors of this decade the opportunity to come here. Your teachers, your deans, your advisors, and your administrators deserve much of the credit for providing quality life and education during your stay here. But you, most of all, deserve the credit for choosing Oakwood College and for having made this a lively but spiritual student body as the years have swiftly flown. And now, as we close out the scintillating seventies and move into the challenging Henchanting eighties , with new heights to climb and new horizons to reach, it is my hope that you whose journey with us ends in '79, as well as you who remain to accompany us through the transition, shall find within these pages loving memories and lasting inspiration. May those of earlier decades be proud to identify with present accomplishmentsg may those of today's generation find pride in past glories and may you who are Oakwoodites of tomorrow find joy in anticipation of your sojourn here. And then, with circle united and unbroken, may Heaven grant us all the mission, the courage, the health and the dedication commensurate for the continued progress of our beloved school.
