ALABAMA 35806 orricl or THI Pnlsonnuzm' November 20 ,l9 74 Dear Students: While the contents of these pages are intended to recall the highlights of the past school year, no photograph, no prose, however elegant, can capture the full warmth and joys of the Oakwood experience: for Oakwood has always meant not only quality education but also a distinct life style unduplicated and unparalleled anywhere in the world. The most special part of the Oakwood community is, of course, its student body. Therefore, it is my earnest hope that all students past can view these pages nostalgically, that all students present can view them proudly and that all future students will sense herein an invitation to become a part of the rich and happy Oakwood tradition. Elder Cfanson delivered enlightening messages each evening, emphasizing that our relationship with God is a personal thing and calls for a special dedication on our part. Many students participated in the services by singing or giving their personal testimonies. Our prayers are with Elder Canson as he returns to his ministry at the Normandie Avenue Seventh-day Ad- ventist Church, Los Angeles, California. Gymnastic s are one of the fast-paced sports. It requires expert timing, rhythm, strength, flexibility, and most of all, originality. The Olympians strive for perfection in each feat that they at- tempt, whether a full twisting, front lay out, a front drop on the trampoline, or a simple stag leap on the balante beam. The instructor is Daniel Winslow. The P.E. Department is under the leadership of Coach 1. Roddy and Mrs. L. Mont- gomery, who have been helpful in making many arrange- ments to assist the team. At long last, I am very happy to present to you the l973-74 edition of the Oakwood College ACORN. As many of you know, I was originally the yearbook photographer, but as you see, I, as a result of some complications, was entrusted with the editorship. The job was new, my staff was small, but we worked hard to get this edition of the ACORN finished with your best interest in mind. In the production of this yearbook, I must give recognition to David Trusty and the USM Senate, Dean Claude Thomas, Jr., Dr. Irene Nakeham, Mr. Harold Lee, Lizbeth Thorpe, Deborah Holmes, Deborah Young, the entire student body and especially to Tom Bentley of Paragon Yearbooks whose assistance was beyond the call of duty. We realize that the l973-74 ACORN is late. For your patience we are truly grateful. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the ACORN, and I hope you will be pleased with this picture-packed edition. The moments of nostalgia I experienced while putting it all together were numerous. It is my sincere desire that you will also share that experience as you turn the pages with me and remember when . . . u .R i' f L T'x'rt ,Cf Ll ff 'f Eugene' Armstead, Sr. Editor-in-Chief ACORN l973-74 f.- T irc.-H 1113: - - T Tw app' awiif, T .ex -E.. .-4 9 'Tw- Tyuftyg, -1... i-iw' 4 i-.- 4-- cm., T -,rw .T g'i,3Plg'x1r'1-T- 9. eMi?ltW'i ' , af .-ifkigfir-13 E: lx A-rygjf? 52.1.3-. 33155 il0 'i ff MJ?
