ALABAMA 35806 Orme: or THE PRESIDENT Dear Fellow Students: The imminent celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of Oakwood College offers a fitting occasion to extend a word of congratulations and good wishes. Over these decades, Oakwood has filled a providential role. ln training leaders for the black Seventh-day Adventist conimunity, it has met a need that was real and pressing. Through the efforts of these leaders, the sturdy faith and rich religious principles and practices that are so distinctive of the Church took deep root in these men and in the communities which they served. May l challenge you as students of Oakwood College to continue that tradition. Guard jealously your religion, your language, your custorns, and your honor. As have students at Oakwood College in the past, you know joy and sorrow. You have experienced the high inspiration of a Week of Prayer, the feeling of butterflies in the stomach when unprepared for an examination, the sting of punishment for breaking curfew. You complain about the food, yet rarely leave anything on your plates, you groan at your class assignmentsg yet find fault with those professors who are too easy . You are anxious to leave, yet you will return in years to come to chew the fat about the good old days . You pray in chapel and 'worship and still get into rnischiefg you swear brotherly love and fight behind the gyrng you make resolutions and fall into laziness. You hate the bell that rouses you in the morning and love it beyond measure when it sounds to end the class p-erio-d. You cram for tests, and razz those classmates whom you consider eager beavers . You know the keen pleasure of making the l-lonor Roll and the dread visit to the Office of the Dean. As students of Oakwood, you are proud of your religious and cultural heritage, and proud to be an integral an-d vibrant part of the Oakwood College Tradition. Strengthened by a fine tradition, I join you in the prayer that the years ahead will bring continued success to your efforts and even greater rewards in spiritual satisfaction for all associated in service and concern for Oakwood College. Sincerely yours , 1 ' ef N sr 'xx ' f 2.-32 .,' Frank W. I-Iale, Ir. rw
