J)edicaiio Dr. Otis Bernard Edwards began his teaching career in a private schoo l in Montgomery, Alabama, in the year 1924. He taught there for several years before he was invitecTto join the staff at Oakwood College. , Concerning his reaction to the invitation he stated, Although unmistakable joy had come to me in the years that I had taught, when President J.A. Tucker extended an invitation from the Board of Trustees for me to continue in my chosen profession as a faculty member on the Oakwood campus, I accepted. I regarded teaching as an art that propagated clear thinking and contributed to the development of wholesome charac- ter. Hence, motivated by a deep devotion to the proper development of youth and knowing that Oakwood College was a Christian center where thousands would assemble, I came. Since his arrival on our campus he has served as Dean of Men, Chairman of the Music Department, Head of the Division of Social Sciences and assistant to the president of the college. This great educator has been very instrumental in helping youth at Oakwood College in the development of their mental and spiritual powers. He has been a great incentive to those who are preparing for leadership in the world. Dr. Edwards, because we appreciate the services that you are rendering to us, we dedicate the 1968 edition of the ACORN to you.
