CLASS ACTIVITIES Through the years Oakwood has held to its original purpose, to send forth men strong to think and to act, men who are masters and not slaves of circumstances, men who possess breadth of mind, clearness of thought and the courage of their convictions. -White. In harmony with this statement the college strives through its extra-curricular activities to promote a three-fold plan of education which will include the development of the spiritual, the mental, and the physical powers. Through organizations and clubs of various natures, unusual opportunities are offered the students in training for effective leadership. There are several organizations on the campus that offer opportunities for students to exercise initiative. The Gamma Sigma Kappa, a relatively new organization uses as its motto, Honor, Fi- delity, and Courage. The officers, all seniors, are Zeola Belle Germany, president, Elizabeth Carter, vice- presidentg Dorothy Whitehead, secretary, Lucille Thoms, assistant secretary, Helen Wagner, treasurer, and Marian Bradford, chaplain. As an outgrowth of the Young Men's Betterment Society and the Excelsior Society, the Epsilon Sigma now stands as the official club for the young men. Its aim is that of elevating the cultural, intellectual, and spiritual status of the young men. Louis Offlee is the president of the organization. The Ministerial Seminar chose Lloyd Watson as its leader during the first semester. The organization sponsors a Ministerial Association, a Bible Instructors and Teachers Club. Samuel Thomas is assistant superintendent of the Sabbath School. In this organization students receive practical experience in Sabbath School work as superintendents, secretar- ies, statisticians, teachers, pianists, and choristers. Two seniors, Clinton Luckett and Dorothy Whitehead, are members of the executive staff of the Missionary Volunteer Society. The Oakwood Chapter of The Future Teachers of America have as their motto, They that be teachers shall shine as the brightness of the firmamentf' Nelson Bliss is president. Other clubs and organizations include the Colporteur Club, Junior Medics Club, Inter- national Relations Club, Oakwood Chamber of Commerce, Spanish Club, Arts and Crafts Guild, and Kappa Gamma Chi. -Dorothy VVhitehead Joseph Christian.
