The Dramatics Club presented 'May The Force Be With You” in the fall. Their spring production Addict,” was given at the Junior High as well as for the public. Both plays reflected the increased energy and enthusiasm being shown for dramatics. The speech team had a really successful year. For the first time ever, the team placed second in the IHSA Regional Individual Events competition. They advanced as a team to the Regional. The team placed members in finals at Invitationals at Paxton, Lincoln, Bloomington, Urbana, Charleston, and Heyworth, all these invitationals served to strengthen their performances at the Regionals. The Speech team also participated in Drama competition, presenting The Dairy of Anne Frank.” The group cut and edited the two act play to 45 minutes and prepared all the sets for the competition. They placed fifth in Regional competition for Drama. The Speech team’s Group Interpretation piece Sorry, Wrong Number” delighted everyone who saw it. The piece placed fourth at Regional Group Interpretation Competition. Since they lost only a few seniors, they expect to see the program grow considerably next year. 28 Sitting (I to r) Kim Carpenter, Glenn Billings. Posting an overall record of seven wins, eight losses, and one tie (4-4-1 against conference opponents) the grapplers equaled their best win total in five seasons. Despite having several weight classes filled with first year wrestlers a strong nucleus of returning veterans enabled the team to be competitive in all but three dual matches. In fact, of their eight setbacks, four were decided by twelve points or less. Team highlights for the season included wins over perennial powers Hoopeston and Catlin, a come from behind tie against arch-rival Bismarck a fourth place finish (out of eight teams) at the regional and the advancement of Larry Draper, Dan Moreman, Scott Denhart, Al Peeler, and Sean Covert to sectional competition. All county honors went to Larry Draper (who also placed in each of the five tournaments he was in), Al Peeler (named to the ICC all-conference team), and Sean Covert (placing first out of ten teams at LeRoy). Individual team leaders were: Dan Moreman and Al Peeler, most pins (14); Dan Moreman, fastest pin (12); Sean Covert, most wins and best record (21-5); Al Peeler, most takedowns (36); Dan Moreman, most nearfalls (22); Dan Moreman, most reversals (20); and Scott Denhart, most escapes (24). Although the Comets will be losing seniors Ron Fugate, Brett Harrison, Troy McCarter, Brandon Lock, and co-captain Sean Covert, they have a solid group of experienced wrestlers returning. 54 Boys Basketball Standing (I to r) Coach Ray Wittmann, Brian Thompson, Darrin King, Terry McCord, Randy Fletcher, Craig Edwards, Brent Vinson, Manager Jim Wright. Not only did they learn of the computer, but they also were given information on the upcoming software. They also took a field trip to Danville Area Community College. They worked on the IBM PC and IBM 4361 main frame computers. Computer Club 74 Parent-Student Swap Day ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ Community Unit Dist. 76 Jimmie Page, Supt. For one day these so-called students” have the chance to find out how much they remember. This year was the tenth year that this program has taken place; it was also as successful as in the years before. It is held in the school library where Student Council members help with the seating and serving of their guests. The Oakwood High School band and chorus provide the entertainment for the guests. The turn out for the Senior Citizen Dinner has always been good and we hope it will continue to grow. 125 S.A.D.D. Officer : Rob Mineo, Trade Trimble, Michelle Anker, Li a Clendenen. Mr . Matayo. Adwitor This year has been a very successful one for Oakwood's Chapter of Students Against Driving Drunk. S.A.D.D. is a National Organization which hopes to save the lives which are taken due to drunk drivers. This group does not stress not drinking; However, it does stress not driving if one has been drinking. Our chapter of S.A.D.D. has been the subject of several newspaper and television stories and commercials. They have also sponsored a workshop for area schools as well as several teen dances. They have visited schools in the area and presented assemblies to help get other schools involved. With the help and guidance of Marsha Matayo, Oakwood's Chapter has accomplished many tasks within the past year. 126 127 Senior Night 128 LO -to R« n the CoM Like this Sroi E MME % CALLING ALL ST'JDcNIS t etial $!■'£ NTS NAME M K cfPraT MERCHA lOO K.A INTE7 $TIM • HEADLINE HERE STORE NAME STUDENT UE'AOLlMF SMM COMMUNITY DEALER cut STORE MAMS srvDpwf mice 3oo HEADLINE STORE NAME ITALIC T PF G-FTS INSTANTATTFNT70H “B YOUMG FOLKS LIKZ EMPORIUM Thrifty Student Huy at BLANK ■Good But thit L rek. I sincerely hope you will enjoy this book now and many years down the road. In order to put together a project of this size, it takes a lot of time and effort from many people and I would like to recognize them. First of all, I would like to thank the staff members for all their time and effort. I would also like to thank Karen Martin-Quinkert (Jostens Representative) and Dale Dowers (Photographer) for their help in making this book a success. Last, but certainly not least, our advisors, Mrs. Meharry and Mr. Nolan who have given us help and guidance throughout the year.
