Wayne Crawford Carol Meade Nancy Miller Margaret Hays .Virginia Duke Nancy Swan Joe Miller Diane Miller Mr. Wasson Mr. Eye stone The Annual Staff of 1963-1964 has chosen to dedicate its annual to Mr. Hockett. We feel he has done much for the students during the eight years he has taught at Oakwood Township High School. He teaches Agriculture and therefore is readily the F.F.A. Sponsor. He often uses his own time to help boys with their individual projects. This is not the extent of his doings. When Dramatics or any other organization needs to have new props built, Mr. Hockett is the man who is willing to help, always with a smile on his face. We think the student body will always be grateful for the help Mr. Hockett has given them. Although it may not be known to some, we feel he has done something that is helpful for each and everyone of GERTRUDE FISHER English Literature, Latin, Librarian, Penn College, B.A. University of Illinois M.A. LORENA BARNES English, French, University of Illinois, B.A. LOWELL FLENER Algebra I, Advanced Algebra, Southern Illinois University, B.Ed., University of Illinois. A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT The value of a given amount of knowledge and skill is relative. The training a learned man had fifty years ago would not enable him to comprehend today’s world. The best training youth can secure today will not be adequate for tomorrow, unless it is regularly refurbished. 6 Harold Dolbee Clyde Hendricks o T H S Glenn Sperry Gerald Meade BOARD OF Orville Gutterridge President Dorothy Dalbey Secretary EDUCATION - MAINTENANCE MEN Joe Me Vey, John Duden, Fred Montgomery, Layton Liggerr, Herschel Me Pherson. THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY FRONTENAC COAL CORPORATION Danville, Illinois SENIOR CLASS The big day! Ninety-one somewhat hesitant, but eager-to-learn, Freshmen entered the doors of Oakwood High. We were treated'' to an Initiation Party, at which we secretly enjoyed all of the attention we received! We chose as our officers: President Dale Knapp, Vice-President Tom Goodwine, Secretary Lockie Swengel, and Treasurer Linda Scott. Pat Tanner was chosen as our Homecoming Attendant. Our representatives to the Student Council were Steve Barnes, Sam Johnson, Lockie Swengel, and Pat Tanner. We were proud to have Sue Oakwood and Pat Tanner elected as Jr. Varsity Cheerleaders. Then it was our turn! We had the pleasure of initiating the little greenies. Our officers were Don Gary, Ed McClure, Pat Tanner, and Margaret Hays. Pat Tanner was again chosen as our Homecoming Attendant. Sue and Pat were re-elected as cheerleaders and were joined by Brenda Cox and Marsha Miller. Our Student Council Representatives were Fred Schafer, Brenda Cox, Sam Johnson, and Lockie Swengel. Just two more years! Our Junior year was a great one. We received our class rings and sponsored the Fall Play, Time Out for Ginger. We gave the Seniors a prom centered around the theme Moments to Remember. To guide us through the year we elected Ed McClure, Tom Goodwine, Lockie Swengel and Margaret Hays. Gloria Thompson represented our class in the Homecoming Court. Our Student Council Representatives were Margaret Hays, Steve Barnes, Ed McClure, and Fred Schafer. We were quite fortunate to have all of the Varsity Cheerleaders from our class. They were Brenda Cox, Marsha Miller, Sue Oakwood, and Lockie Swengel. Also, three of the council officers were from the Junior Class--Vice-President Sam Johnson, Secretary Lockie Swengel, and Treasurer Brenda Cox. Seniors at last! It certainly was a busy and profitable year. Tom Flener, Tom Goodwine, Mary Jane Cole, and Larry Sperry were our class officers. Marsha Miller was crowned queen of the Homecoming Dance. Her attendants were Tonda Brinegar, Brenda Cox, and Gloria Thompson. Brenda, Marsha, and Sue were reelected to the Varsity Cheerleading Squad. Our Council representatives were Virginia Duke, Margaret Hays, Steve Barnes, and Ed McClure. Sam Johnson and Brenda Cox were, respectively, elected President and Secretary of the Student Council. We take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to all of our advisors. Without their patience and help, our years at O.T. H.S. wouldn't have been nearly so enjoyable. 10 STEVEN WALTER BARNES Barney Dramatics 3,4; Science Club 2,3; Student Council 1,3,4; O-Club 3,4, Secretary-Treasurer 4; Red Mask 3,4; Light Opera 3,4. After receiving our class rings, making us official juniors, we started down the long road of money making projects for the prom. We sold magazines, mixed nuts, and we sponsored the Junior play Home Sweet Homicide. We express our deepest thanks to Mrs. Sharpf who made it the success it was. To guide us through our difficulties we chose our class officers: Bill Trankina, President; Sandra Cunningham, Vice-President; Judy DeMoss, Secretary; Marva Fuller, Treasurer . Also Bill Trankina was elected District Vice-President for Student Council. We are all proud of Bill. We proved that we were a class of beauty by electing Debbie Damery as our lovely attendant to Miss Victory's Court. Debbie is also a Varsity Cheerleader this year. As most juniors will agree, it has been a busy year and we all look forward to more hard work and good times next year as seniors. 32 Terry Adamson Ron Anderson Mary Block George Burnett Gary Bussey Linda Conley Ron Cook Donna Cunningham Sandy Cunningham Debbie Damery Wanda Daniels Charles Davis Phil Davis Rose Davis Judy DeMoss Larry Dukes Larry Durbin Dianna Engleman Denny Erwin Chris Faldt Gary Farris Dave Flessner Dave Fletcher Glenda Fletcher Marva Fuller Virginia Grant Carolyn Greer Ruth Grimes Starr Gritton Janis Hamilton 33 Hammon, Marsha Hawkins, Carl Hazelbaker, John Hazelbaker, Judy Hazelbaker, Kay Henk, Gary Hume, Terry Johnson, Lewis Jones, Bob Kamplain, Wesley Key, William Koontz, Betty Lamb, Lora Landers, Julaine Lane, Rick Lane, Ed Leamons, Nolan Lee, Rita Lev ere nz, Larry McQueen, Carol Marble, Bob Martin, Gene Mauck, Bonnie Meade, Carole Megenhart, Gene Michener, Peggy Miller, Charles Miller, Mike Mitchell, Larry Mullins, Larry 34 Charlene Nelson Bob Plater Sylvia Redman Ronnie Renfer Betty Ritter Becky Rogers David Sadler Betty Seyfert Steve Sims Carolyn Smith George Smith Steve Smith Ken Stuebe Jim Sullivan Terry Swick Joe Tate Bill Trankina Linda Turner Sandy VanVickle Sandy Verhoeven Vickie Vinson Joy White Linda Williams Jon Thompson Arlene Winslow Myma Woodard George Yarusinsky Ron Yates Bill Musson 35 1 SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY The Sophomore Class was well represented in school activities this year. Jeff Francis and Sandy Hendricks were in the Junior Play; Sandy was also our Homecoming attendant. Class officers were Jeff Francis, President; Larry McBride, Vice-President; Rhonda Trees, Secretary; and Ken Miller, Treasurer. Our class project was a chili supper, and we are very grateful for the help given us by Mrs. Barnes and Mr. Flener, our advisors. This Page Sponsored by PLAYBOY BARBERSHOP BELTON CANDY COMPANY 116 E. To interest more girls in club work the officers and the club advisor, Mrs. Mickelson, have worked out a very interesting calendar for this year. Included on this calendar are such things are talks, demonstrations, movies, Christmas caroling, discussion panels, parties, and the annual Sweetheart Ball. The club's major activity for this year is a Stay-in-School Drive, in which each girl is to make a poster. These posters will be distributed throughout the area to inform people about the disadvantages of dropping out of school. 53 G.A.A. Their dependability, ability to take criticism, willingness to work with the group, and acting ability were vital factors in being chosen. D R A M A T I Ray Hadley, Carolyn Clark, Tom Flener, Margaret Hays, Joe Miller, Donna Cunningham, Sue Oakwood. FOUR STAR THESPIANS According to the National Constitution, a member who has accumulated over 75 points or 225 hours of work in Dramatics may be designated a four star Thespian. The number of students eligible this year is a tribute to their energy and interest in enriching their lives and providing culture at O.T.H.S. through dramatics. II DRAMATIC CLUB AWARD To become eligible for this honor a student must have spent 4 years in Dramatics Club. Sue met these requirements and was active in all phases of club work, including plays, committee work, speech contests, variety shows, and Dramatics Club officer. BEST THESPIAN AWARD Carolyn Clark received this second highest award in dramatics. Carolyn participated in all phases of dramatics during her high school years. Sue Oakwood Carolyn Clark Jerry has set a precedent which many Freshmen will admire and find difficult to attain. In first year Dramatics he was able to acquire enough points through stage and committee work and Speech Contests to make him eligible for National Thespian Society membership. According to the National Constitution, he cannot become a member until he is a Junior--This is the first award of this type and will not be given annually.
