McNeill. It can only be used to show part of our appreciation for the time and patience he has given to the Junior classes here at Oakwood Township High School as an advisor. Little do we realize the work he has contributed in making the Junior-Senior Proms a success. Only the Juniors can appreciate this part of his work or even know about it, but I am sure that everyone realizes how hard he works here. He is also noted for his jokes although they aren't always funny. 3 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL As a pictorial history of a year of school, your high school annual is indicative of each individual's participation in the life of the school community. However, your picture shows that you had the opportunity to be an effective and contributing member, not the extent of your efforts. The members of your group and your advisor will remember those students with special pleasure and pride who gave largely of their time, ability, and effort to further the interests of the group. The bigger community that you live in after graduation will profit from such training because it is the best possible preparation for working with adult organization. 4 ARTHUR GRIMM ORVILLE CUTTERRIDCE ROBERT JOHNSON CLARENCE OAKWOOD BOARD OF JANE PERRY English I, Rhetoric MacMurray College, University of Illinois PAT IRELAND Home Economics I—IV, Southern Illinois University, B.S. After getting used to our new surroundings and learning Where do I go next, we faced initiation. We Greenies got a lot of attention and discovered that we were to be known as underclassmen. Officers elected for the year were President, Carol Grimm; Vice-President, Ed Anderson; Secretary, Janice Wolfe; and Treasurer, Judy Denhart. Lora Grimm was chosen to be our representative to the court of Miss Victory. At Last! We are Sophomores and get a chance at initiating the Greenies--the new underclassmen--which we all enjoy. Our Sophomore officers were, President, Bob Johnson; Vice-President, Ralph Covert; Secretary, Mary Andrews; and Treasurer, Judy Denhart. Lora Grimm was again chosen as our Homecoming attendant. In 1960-61 we prepared for our first Prom, which was financially sponsored by the efforts of everyone in the Junior Play, Meet Me in St. Louis, and our magazine drive. Our year was a success through the efforts of Lora Grimm, Mary Kay Dodson, Connie Fletcher, and Darlene Grimes, our class officers. Our Homecoming attendant was Carol Grimm. Our Senior officers are, President, Lora Grimm; Vice-President, Lawrence Curry; Secretary, Mary Andrews; and Treasurer, Darlene Grimes. Our Homecoming candidates were Sue Lane, Decemma Durbin, Carol Grimm, and Lora Grimm, Miss Victory. Carol Grimm, Lora Grimm, and Sue Lane have led both the Seniors and the rest of the student body in cheering our athletes to victory. It has been said that the years spent in high school are the best years of one’s life. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen; however, I'm sure all the Seniors of '62 will say these have been the best years spent so far. Farewell Seniors to be! We'll leave you in May, but want to wish you all luck in your future careers, whatever they may be. This year we the class of 1963 have as our officers, Steve Meade, President; Judy Sloan, Vice-Pres.; Nancy Grimm, Secretary; and Dick Martoglio, Treasurer. In another election Linda Gutter -ridge became our attendant to Miss Victory for Homecoming. In the fall we sponsored Bells on Their Toes, a comedy; and with the help of the Dramatics Club, it was a success. The receiving of our class rings highlighted the fall as the Junior-Senior Prom did this spring. Selling magazines to sponsor the Prom was a lot of work but we hope everyone agrees that it was worth it. Know-it-all, smart-alec, green, scared, and trembling, are all adjectives describing poor little freshies --except O.T.H.S. freshmen, as we are not like that at all. We feel as mature and dignified as the upper-classmen. We stormed the doors in great flocks, a bigger class of freshmen than had ever come through those doors before. There are one-hundred and ten of us in all. To guide us through our difficulties, we chose as our leaders, Bonnie Mauck, President; Bill Trankina, Vice-President; Judy DeMoss, Secretary; and Marsha Hammon, Treasurer. The sophomores entertained us at an initiation party. We are planning a return party in the spring. We also sponsored a Sadie Hawkin’s dance in the fall (some of the outfits showed imagination?”). We were proud of the way Donna Cunningham represented our class in Miss Victory's court. We sincerely hope our class has contributed liveliness to our school. We’re always eager to have a good time; and, wherever we go, we hope that we carry laughter and hilarity with us. We have made many friends during our first year here and are looking forward to the next three years at O.T.H.S. They were chosen on the basis of the following qualities: Dependability--Truthfulness--Honesty--Punctuality Service--Cooperation--Helpfulness--Responsibility Leadership--Personality--Self-Control--Initiative Patriotism--Unselfish loyalty to American ideals The aim of this award is to pay tribute to youthful character and to call attention to those qualities which determine good citizenship. These two people have given much of their time toward things which would benefit their classmates. They have earned the respect of their classmates as well as the underclassmen by their leadership, friendliness, and character. During their four years at O.T.H.S. they have been very active and have given unfailing service to the school.
