Settton, The new building had not yet been dedicated when it was invaded by the previous year's students, plus 110 new wild indians. The wild ones underwent an effective taming process carried out by the gleeful sophomores on initiation day. Secretly, we enjoyed the initiation because it was the only time all year that we received special attention. Our return party for the Sophomores added another enjoyable experience to our Freshman year. The class officers for all four years were Presidents: Trena Smith, Jerry Stephens, Jim Rogers, and Jim White; Vice-presidents: Larry Young, Jim Rogers, Ed White, Dorothy Ferling; Secretaries: Marjorie Cox and Judy Vinson (two years); Treasurers: Phil Horton, Connie Lowe, and Connie Grimm (two years). Norma Bloomfield was the Freshman contribution to the queen's court in the Homecoming pageant. She repeated the honor her Junior year, and Sue Kent represented our class in the 1959 coronation ceremonies. Again, little greenies underwent cruel Sophomore torture, but this time WE were the persecutors. By virtue of our Sophomore status we moved to the west side of the bleachers and tried to out yell the other classes during pep assemblies. We couldn't resist laughing unsympathetically at the larynx-straining efforts of the unsuccessful Freshmen. For the Homecoming assembly we presented a skit in which the villain. Handsome Henry Hoopeston, was defeated by Marshal Dillon, Chester Hobick, Kitty Sharpf, and Doc Luke. An innovation was made for our Junior play. Instead of one three-act production, three one-act plays were given. The first was an all-male cast presenting Submerged, the second, a comedy, The Trysting Place, and the third from a play by George Bernard Shaw, Too Good to be True. It was a struggle, but the temperature on the magazine sales thermometer finally reached the goal which enabled us to entertain the Seniors with a wonderful Prom in the Hotel Wolford. As part of the Christmas program, some of our Junior hams enacted a skit about little colored children and Sandy Claus. Our many talents extend into the cheerleading activities. Connie Grimm has represented us for four years, Karen Sawyer and Sue Kent each for one year. As Seniors we had a more active part in the Homecoming festivities. Diana Hall was crowned Miss Victory and Marilyn Hayes, Connie Lowe, and Connie Grimm were our representatives in the queen's court. Lettermen for the four years include Bob Adams, Ed DeRay, Dale Liggett, Tom Verhoeven, Mike Cannon, Chuck Andrews, Bill Boen, and Jim Miller. In Student Council work, Jim Rogers served as president this year and Judy Vinson as secretary, a job filled by Connie Lowe the previous year. Bob Adams, Trena Smith, Connie Lowe, and Dorothy Ferling were class representatives, plus other Seniors representing various organizations. The Homecoming assembly was much enlivened by the mock crowning of one of four lovelies, --four of our beautiful Senior boys. It is difficult to imagine these classmates as graduates emerging into the world of post-high-school-experience. Yet, graduate we will, come May. However, about a third of us look forward to another graduation--from college. Whatever our paths, we will all say farewell to our dear old alma mater but will not soon forget our years spent here.
