Mr. Wasson Mr. Eyestone We the Class of '60 respectfully and sincerely dedicate this volume of the Acorn to Mrs. Gertrude Fisher, who by her example of unselfish devotion ro our school, has proved herself to be possessed of those qualities that make her a capable teacher, a splendid character, and 2 Gene Mauck Ralph Miller Arthur Grimm Raymond Van Buskirk BOARD Clarence Oakwood President Dorothy Dalbey Secretary EDUCATION This school year encompasses the ending of an old decade and the beginning of a new. The 1950's were vigorous years. Our world seethed and eventually boiled over in big and small wars. We were horrified by the A and H bomb and made thoughtful by the impending population explosion. Progress was rapid industrially and mechanically, but socially and politically we still fumbled for the way. What will the 60's bring besides more gadgets, more conveniences, more leisure, moon trips, marriage, death, and birth? Will the potentialities of nuclear fission and the new knowledge from space travel produce as much change as steam, gasoline, and the compass? May we do wisely and well in the 60’s. We must if the world is to know 1970! Wayne E. Koontz, Principal 5 FACULTY LAUREL HOBICK Social Problems Boys' Physical Ed. Coach of Football and Track, Basketball William Jewel College A.B. Getting in the swing of high school ways, our class provided laughs galore for the upperclassmen on initiation day, and received full revenge at the sophomore return party. Officers for the year were: Tom Fletcher, President; Richard Lane. Vice-President; Frank Warner, Secretary; Judy Goodwin, Treasurer. Janet Terry was our Homecoming attendant. With remembrance of last year’s tortures, the new greenies were initiated. Officers for the year were: President, Tom Fletcher; Vice-President, Betsy Johnson; Secretary, Barbara Neff; Treasurer, Dennis Mauck. Our play, The Man Who Came to Dinner was a big success as was the magazine drive. With our concession the treasury was boosted sufficiently and made it possible to have an outstanding Junior-Senior Prom. We were all thrilled when our class rings finally arrived in October. Officers for the year were: President, Richard Lane; Vice-President, Larry Dunn; Secretary. Linda Richter; and Treasurer, Barbara Neff. The big year has finally arrived. We are finally SENIORS! All four years we have been well represented in sports. Our lettermen include: Dick Denhart, Larry Dunn, Tom Fletcher, Andy Slade. Jack Seymour, Jerry Hobick, Lance Girton, Julian Stone, Bob Block, Marvin Saathoff, Larry Taylor, Russ Stephens, Bill Wynn and Dave Majzel. Highlighting the annual Homecoming our class candidate, Virlane Youmans was crowned Miss Victory. Senior class attendants were Betsy Johnson, Barbara Neff, and Janet Terry. Our class was again honored when Janie Swengel was crowned Miss Harvest Moon Ball Queen for 1959-60. Janet Terry and Virlane Youmans represented our class as cheerleaders for four years. Karen Maxwell represented us for three years. Officers for this year include: President, Barbara Neff; Vice-President, Larry Dunn; Secretary, Frank Warner; and Treasurer, Dennis Mauck. Our Student Council members for this year were Tom Fletcher, President; Richard Lane, Vice-President; with Jane Swengel, Larry Dunn, Linda Richter, and Sharon Jones as representatives. Graduation in May will climax four years here at O. T. H. S. and give fifty-seven young men and women a good start in a future career. High school days will soon be lost within the broadening of our lives. We now say good-bye to O.T.H.S. and continue in our respective paths. Beware world! So far this year we have successfully met each of them. We hope to meet all others and have a good annual for the school as soon as possible. We of the Acorn Staff truly hope that each of you will enjoy your annual as much as we enjoy presenting it to you. This was the first time in our school that organizations had been allowed a specific representative in their behalf. Our first major project this year was to sponsor our annual Homecoming. With 'ane Swengel as chairman, the event was a success. On November 10, the Council canvassed neighboring areas collecting old clothes for, Save the Children Foundation and donations for CARE. Everyone on the Council helped to make this drive a success. Marcia Swengel was chairman of our Christmas Program which was enjoyed immensely by the Student Body. Marge Cox and Judy Denhart were appointed co-chairmen of the March of Dimes Drive to represent this school. They put up posters, received decantors, and distributed donation envelopes among the Student Body. 47 DRAMATICS 1st R.: Linda Gutteridge, Janice Neff, Mary Jo Swan, Flo Ann Fuller, Sharon Izard, Sue Lane, Priscilla Boyd, Linda Downing, Diane Douglass, Karen Kinney, Lynn Hazelbaker. 2nd R.: Janet Terry, Linda Peugh, Jane Swengel, Sally Lanham, Larry Dunn, Kay Barnes, Judy Van Buskirk, Dick Denhart, Trena Smith, Karen Maxwell, Virlane Youmans, Phyllis Richards. 3rd R.: Cynthia Myers, Marcia Swengel, Avalon Loeffler, Connie Lowe, Mary Andrews, Pat Miller, Barbara Neff, Phyllis Headlee, Sharon Walker, Eleanor Curry, Ann Calvert, Ann Long, Carolyn Davis, Marion Frances, Carol Grimm, Judy Sloan, Deanna Hendricks, Mary Stuebe, Sandy Foley, Sue Kent. 4th R.: Sharon Block, Lois Headlee, Irene Vinson, Susan Faldt, Sally Goodwine, Dorothy Ferling, Beverly Richter, Judy Vinson, Loren Douglass, Bob Johnson, C.
