THE NEW AND Everyone should be proud of the beautiful new building. Going to school in it will seem almost like fun after the crowded conditions of the past two years. Even the graduating seniors will agree it has been worth all the sacrifices. Studying will be much easier without the disturbing sounds from the Physical Education Department or the class in the next room. The new cafeteria will be very popular after two years of eating cold lunches. The board and the faculty have worked hard to make this a modern and efficient school building. They have succeeded in obtaining one of the finest, most modem structures in the state. The first students in it would do well to live up to the high standards set by this new building. Construction began on this building in the spring of 1956. It should be entirely completed by the beginning of school in the fall of 1957. It is a modern, one-story brick structure with twelve classrooms, a library, a cafeteria-study hall combination, and a band room over-looking the gymnasium. The building is designed to accommodate 450 students, the estimated enrollment in 1962. It was built at the cost of $450, 000. 00.

The Oakwood Township High School building was dedicated on Friday, April 27, 1917, at which time there were exercises and speaking. The school has been fully accredited by the proper authorities of the State of Illinois. Favored as it is by abundant resources, a beautiful and well constructed building, a location accessible to all, and a spirit of genuine friendship among members of the board, parents, teachers and students, the school promises to be one of the leading educational institutions in the state. Acorn Staff 1917 A gymnasium is being added to the original building tills year, 1936, at the approximate cost of $54,000. It is to provide a playing floor of eighty-five feet by forty-five feet, with a seating capacity of seven hundred fifty, and a stage opposite the bleachers. Locker rooms for sports and physical education are located under the stage. On the north side, under the bleachers, the Home Economics Department is located. The gymnasium is to be connected to the main building by a corridor, which will be the main entrance to the building. The new project will not only help the crowded conditions, but will also provide a meeting place for the people of the community. Acorn Staff 1936 We are sorry to see the original building destroyed, but happy to see it replaced by a new and more spacious one. The old building will be remembered only by pictures, but what was accomplished within the walls will live on, along with memories of the days spent in classrooms, study halls and participation in school activities.

NEW BUILDING PRESENTS PROBLEMS Raymond Van Buskirk Cletis Zigler Clarence Oakwood Dorothy Dalbey A board of education is a group of citizens who possess ability, common sense, vision and courage and who are willing to give their time and talents to the betterment of their community and state. They expect no pay other than the appreciation of the people whom they serve and this they try to earn. The Oakwood Township High School Board is one that deserves and has the appreciation of the people and the staff alike. Each member has been both regular in attendance and cheerful during the frequent and lengthy meetings of the past two years. As a result the problems that came of building on the site of a school that was in session have had a prompt and intelligent solution. The community will soon have a new building without having been forced to scatter its students among the schools of our neighbors. The Cornerstone is in place.
