Senior Class Poem It is with sorrow and regret that we must say “goodbye” To our good friends and teachers who remain at Oakwood High. They have helped us in time of trouble and in time of distress, They have made the Oakwood High School, the school that we love best. To our principal, Mr. Koontz, who performed a task so great, We extend a hand of thanks for the guidance of our fate. His secretary, Mrs. Cannon, has done a fine job, as well. We congratulate you both, and we think that you are swell. Here’s a toast to our teachers, who, we think, are grand. They’ve taught us to think, and to understand. They’ve lengthened our memories, they’ve broadened our minds. They’ve deepened our wisdom by work of all kinds. Three cheers! For the Juniors who never give in, With their initiative, they’re bound to win. They’ve fought three years, our honored title to gain, At last we surrender, and give them our name. SENIOR. Hail! To the Sophomores, who are now growing older. As they advance in life, they’re becoming much bolder. They’re no longer bashful, nor are they afraid, By these quick-witted Sophomores, every trick has been played. The Freshmen are no longer bashful, nor are they shy, But they still answer questions with a grunt for reply. However, they’re good sports, for they never complain, Although they don’t like their so called name. GREENIES. Coach Wiltsie was excellent, his team was swell. On the whole, the football boys did very well. Mr. Bess did his duty, he brought his team through. The basketball boys did a good job too. In closing this poem there’s little to say. But here’s one message we’d like to convey. “To all of you, from all of us, Here’s the best of luck and happiness.” GLAD TO BE GOING We’ve crossed another milestone, which once stood in our way. And it makes us very happy to be able to say, “Good luck to you, and farewell to all. We’ll not be back when school starts next fall ” As a closing word we’d like to say, Of course, in a humorous and jokingly way, “We now feel free, we’ve served our time.” At least this fits the occasion, and makes a rhyme.
