The BCIARD OF EDIJCATION is one ol' many groups which have had additional taslcs to perform in preparation for a strong defense. lt has authorized the school as civilian defense headquarters and a sugarsrationing station, and has spent over thirty-tive hundred dollars for new equipment in the practical arts depart- ments-home economics, machine shop, and commercial. Many of its second-lVlonday-in- each-month sessions have been spent in the discus- Nm K Ie sion ol the war's effect on the high-school curri- culum. Several changes occurred in the Board this year with the resignation of Allred S. Franlc, the past president, and ol' Harry L. Bimm. ln January two new memhers, Rohert S. Oelman and David E. Detriclc, tool: office for four-year terms. Frederick Heclcert began his third four-year term, as the new president. Mrs. George R. lwlurray, Fern J. Blose, and R. Further duties include taking care oi school records, paying hills, and figuring the school's income tav schedule lor Uncle Sam. lvllss FRANCES SHEPLER, secretary to the superintendent, malces out the daily ahsence lists, distrihutes mail, answers telephone calls, malces transcripts ol credits for seniors, and lceeps records ol alumni, to mention hut a few of the taslcs she does very elllqiciently. The CLINIC is a good friend to all Scots, lor it is here that we save doctor hills lJy Hnipping diseases in the Dr. Harry Lautenslager is at school each morning to prescribe for the ailing and to give the semi-annual physical checlc-ups. Nurse Sylvia Brose is at the school all day where she helps the doctor, talces care ol emergencies, and operates the lunchroom. Charles Moore, who was chairman oi advisers this year, has contrilputed a great deal ol' good advice and help to the lmoys oi S-3. lwiss lvlargaret Stein- dori, in addition to her duties as lihrarian, was the adviser ior the girls oi SAI5. The girls of S-II are SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS The class of 1942 is Oakwood High Schools nine- teenth graduating class and one oi the linest clans to leave these Highlands. Bob Boswell served as our capahle chief-executive, Jean Franlce filled the vice-presidency, Carolyn Boyd proved to he a very efficient secretary, and Harris Grether, treasurer, handled the funds in true Scotch fashion. in addition to the four oiiicers, an executive coune cii composed oi James Chenoweth, .lean Binldey, Clara Lane, and Peter Legler, who were elected as representatives from their respective homerooms, has made announcements ahout senior activities to the homerooms, contrihuted valuaiple suggestions and ideas, aided class committees, and performed the countless other duties that have heen necessary to malce senior projects successful. lvleetings oi the officers and council were held at frequent intervals to ulceep the hall rolling on the senior prom, com- mencement, haccalaureate, and class night plans. They also assisted on smaller proiects throughout the year. under the ahle guidance oi lxfiiss Helen Stilwell. who also heads the Highlanders' dramatic efforts. Wir. ,lohn lwlartinis name is usually associated with puhiic spealcing, hut the hoys in S-I0 have found him to he a wonderlul Friend as well.
