Taking practice test, Fanny Yeh tries to be the best tutor she can as she attends a tutorial workshop conducted in the LRC. Llsienlng chentlvely, Laura Marty, Rob Ladage, and Chris Collins patiently await further instructions during an NHS meeting. utoring students enthusiastically oday's NHS makes our future leaders Have you ever wanted a tutor? Many students requested and re- ceived a tutor in the area they needed guidance. Tutoring is neat because it is one way of helping people, stated Janet Henning, tutor. The program was compiled by lVlr. Steve Platte and the Special Resources Team and coordinat- ed by vice president, Leanne McWilliams. The tutoring is con- ducted preferably on the cam- pus, but exceptions are consid- ered. Certain requirements must be met to be a member of the Na- tional Honor Society. Admission was originally based on a 3.0 ac- cumulative grade point average but was raised to 3.3. Laura Marty had this response, lt is harder to keep a 3.3 rather than a 3.0 - lt's more of a difference than people realize. Prospective members are thoroughly screened by a committee of staff members as well as sponsor of six years, Ms. Buckner. Fundraising goes for scholar- ships awarded to graduating sen- iors based on their service to the group. Service includes quantity of items sold, hours devoted to tutoring, and community service projects performed by the group as a whole. One of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a high school student is being a member of the national Honor Society. Whether serving the community by hosting a staff breakfast or serving a student through the tu- torial program, each member is recognized by society for excel- ling in the areas of leadership, character, scholarship, and ser- vice.
