ecreT SanTa Claus visiTs royalTy now dance reTurns wiTh winTer spiriT Revived from a Three year ab- sence, The STudenT council Snow Dance Qformerly The ChrisTmas Dancej reTurned To Oakville Sen- ior High, sTirring up mixed emo- Tions of exciTemenT, anTicipaTion, and unforTunaTely some dissenT among The sTudenTs. A disTincT difference in aTTiTude beTween underclassmen and upperclass- men was shown aT The dance where The number of upperclass- men in aTTendance was lacking. Trying To explain The absence of The older peers, senior Pam ViTale poinTed ouT, Many people mighT have been offended because iT wasn'T publicized enough and iT Takes away from The ValenTine's and Homecoming courTs. lf we can give recogniTion To sTudenTs aT Oakville, we're all for iT, said Mr. Jones, STuCo sponsor, in defense of The Snow CourT idea. l'lT's noT an aTTempT To downgrade Homecoming or Take away from The ValenTine's CourT. Since only Ten seniors are honored aT Homecoming and six oThers on ValenTine's CourT, rec- ognizing six more deserving sen- iors should be a welcome oppor- TuniTy when one realizes There are approximaTely 300 seniors in The graduafing class. Those who did aTTend were greeTed by The music of Paradox, who did an excelienT job of mix- ing fasT paced songs wiTh a good number of mellow Tunes. As They danced across The floor, many noTiced The line of people awaiT- ing Their chance To be phoTo- graphed wiTh SanTa as well as The new sTeps being shown by junior Nikki Lockos and STacey Valle who displayed Their sTyle of Uslam dancing. HIT was differenT, commenTed sophomore Debbie Lesinski, one of many encircling The Two dancers who sTole The floor. Snow Dance AfTer The flashes sTopped and The dancers Tired, MC's Ellen Campen and Jan Laski sTepped up To The microphone To inTro- duce The Snow CourT wiTh iTs sen- ior candidaTes. AfTer The voTes were Tallied, Bill RichTer and Dana Knorpp reigned supreme as Oak- ville's Snow King and Queen. Does The fuTure hold a success- ful faTe for The Snow Dance? IT may fall by The wayside due To scheduling difficulfies which STuCo was able To overcome This year. In any evenT, The 4983 Snow Dance will be remembered by Those in aTTendance and, Through The enThusiasm of STuCo and The underclassmen, will re- Turn To iTs sTaTus as one of The respecTed major dances of The year. Slam dancing Crowned with their new titles, King Bill Richter shares a dance with Snow Queen Dano Knorpp. Smiles spread across the faces of ivlC's Jan Laski and Ellen Campen as they an- nounce the 4983 Snow Court. 1983 Snow Court: Pat Giljum and Patty Grass, Bill Richter and Dona Knorpp, Steve Defrancesco and Leanne McWilliams, Tim Wittmann and Kim Baxley. Scott Fisher and Debbie Lesinski. Tom Kelam and Rhonda Whitney. stole the floor as juniors Nikki Lockos and Stdcey Valle display their technique. With Santa present, many flocked to the stage to have their memories captured on film including Kelly Hoban and Devin Ploesser. .xy Snow Dance 21
