K rlends Fonnal Farewell ' Our prom went the way both of us had hoped, making our final high school dance an unforgettable, special night! PROM a feeling of excitement a treasured moment a long await ed anticipation Seniors know and understand this word as an important and chenshed mem ory only they can expenence Shene Dobbs reminesces See mg all of my friends was great we shared part of a special time in our lives and now have many memones to save forever' Making their grand entrances at the Breckenridge Frontenac on May 15, couples arnved at 8 50 sharp, abound in the classlest everyone made it a really special night' E formal apparel and transporta- tion ever witnessed. The excitement was ignited with an exquisite buffet-style dinner, preceding an array of scrump- tious pies and cakes. Accompa- nying the meal, the Bob liuban Brass Band perfom1ed melodies ranging from the 50's to Janet Jackson songs. As couples boo- gied the night away, Michelle Mantler concluded, UWith the ex- citement in the air, everyone made it a really special night! Celebrating their hiendship, Dana Zi- den, Beth Williams, Jeanne Luca, and Christy Famey live it up at prom. Enjoying a moment together, Ann Zie- linski and date share a seat for two. Turning her tassel to signify graduate status, Melanie Jaimerson smiles hap- pily. Marching together in the processional, Scott Holdegraver and Doris Groves head for their seats. t HCIHQ A Bnght Future fl! f r L -. l Facing a future so bright you gotta wear shades, three hun- dred thirty-five seniors marched across the stage to receive their diplomas. Pomp and Circum- stance signaled the beginning of an inspiring ceremony and marked the end of frantic pre- graduation preparations. Guid- ing the seniors through gradu- ation practice, pre-graduation primping, and the final ceremo- ny were co-sponsors Barbara Waddock, Mrs. Van Ronzelen, and seventeen teacher assis- tants. Ceremony highlights included speeches by salutatorians Tina Chechwick and Joe Stemler. Valedictorian Jining Wang in- spired the graduates by recount- 1 'm glad I was a part of the few who broke the ice in the beginning. We were the ice-breakers. a future so bnght you gotta wear shades' ing their high school achieve- ments and challenging them to pursue successful futures. Notable among the class of 1987 were twenty-one seniors: the first group of voluntary desegrega- tion students to complete four years at Oakville. Senior Ed At- kins said, l'm glad l was one of the few who broke the ice in the beginning. Board of Education President Kurt D. Witzel received wild ap- plause after reminding seniors that they had reached the level of knowing they know it and let- ting us all know they know ith Graduation -- 251
