rack Attack '8 Teachers, students, and parents walk outside by the track, seeing gold sweats with the winged foot of Mercury: the god of speed. The sweats belong to the 1987 track tigers, a spirited group de- termined to run, jump, and throw a personal record every meet. The high point of the guys sea- son was the team's strong show- ing at the R-9 Invitational. 'tThe team's strength is in the sopho- more class, stated Mr. Schimpf. The top senior, Joe Stemler, is weekends. 1 think it is fun being on the varsity sprint team, but it's hard work practicing every weeknight and on the school record holder in the 800, 1600, and C5200 meters. The Tigerette's team, led by Coaches Mr. Bishop and Mr. Dennett, was fairly strong in ev- ery event. Senior Stephanie Meert explained, 'lTrack is more than running, it is being versatile in many events, and also having fun! After the team's formidable showing in the Parkway North re- lays, Kellie Cobb and Michelle Peterson laughes, 'iWe all love Mr. Dennet, even though we aren't as good looking as him! QA? J'-gf A ,. 'm 412 5, 'V EI' WW' d van tage Oakville ,Nxt ,. A ig.. The Oakville Boys Varsity Tennis Team came out swinging, plac- ing first in the Boys Class 4A Dis- trict Tennis Championship. Dis- trict singles champion Howard Jarvis placed first by defeating teammate Mathias Saving, who secured the second place medal. The Tigers were represented on the doubles court by the combi- nation of Norm Wendl and Jamie Moeller who took the doubles second place finish. Being in existence for only two years did not bother the Tigers. They proved to the district that experience does not necessarily build strength. l think we really did more than what was expect- ed of us, we only lost two match- es, and that was against Ladue 226 - Boys Tennis I l'm glad we play such a tough . schedule, then we really get a chance to find out how good we are. and Clayton, said Miguel Labin.
