Quoted from an anon- ymous member on The panel at the November second town hall meeting. There is a chemical dependency with students: There is a drug problem here in The Oak- ville and ST. Louis communiTy. These were some statements heard at The first Town hall meet- ing in Oakville's library. The Town hall meeting was ac- tually based on The Chemical People Project aired on PBS, No- vember second and subsequent- ly onthe ninth. The first broadcast was based on avoiding denial. Parents can'T believe Their child could be in with drugs. The sec- ond broadcast talked about cre- ating a Task force. After The end of The second broadcast, con- cerned parents and students agreed To meet and form a task force for The Oakville community. At The first Task force meeting on December seventh, con- cerned parents and students sat attentively. After The details from The last meeting were discussed, a film on alcoholic use began and everything was underway. The parents and students came Together To decide what needed To be done, and to be- gin To inform Themselves about drugs and specifically drug abuse in Oakville. The Task force ad- dressed five concerns and formed committees To research and suggest answers. Senior Jeanne Kutz comment- ed, Too bad kids don'T get in- volved because The whole idea was directed To help Them. The program can'T help Them if They aren'T ready to help Themselves. Not everyone was so frustrated. Mr. Platte exclaimed, The pro- gram so far is positive on The whole. We are not Trying to be witch hunters. We are Trying To find positive alternatives to drug abuse. The program is providing op- tions for The Oakville community and Their schools. lf more students and parents would get involved iT would make an impact in our community. T it si . ..
