Let's start on the morning of Tuesday, September 5, 1950, when twenty-three very eager fresh- men turned out in full number and presented themselves to the Oakville high school. Here's a little about what we did and what happened to us from that day on. Our officers for the year were Jerry Logan, presidentg Carl Cissner, vice- presidentg Yvonne Battson, secretary, and Joylene Bosler, treasurer. Our student council representatives were Carl Cissner and Jerry Logan. Our first very memorable event of that year was our initiation. And what an initiation! we gave several dances throughout the year. We lost four members of our class and gained one that year. we lost Jean Dunkin, Delbert Lake, Maxine Lee, and Kenneth Reisner. Our new member was Sharon Johnson. Our class adviser was Mr. Irwin. As we go on a little further in our book of memories we come to the day when we entered high school as sophomores. Two new members joined us that fall, Carole Sachs and Dennis Burke. Our officers for that year were president, Jerry Logang vice-president, Jerry Rectorg secretary, Yvonne Battsong and treasurer, Joylene Bosler. Hr. Golden was our adviser. During the year we gave two dances, the WDrumstick Dragn and the nSophomore Hop.H Mr. Irwin took the class on a bi- ology trip to the beach. At the last of the year we lost Carl Cissner, John Cun- ningham, and Edwin Lindholm. We gave the freshmen a rousing initiation which neither of us will forget. And with the thought of being HJubi1ant Juniorsu in mind, we close this section of the book of memories. As juniors we accepted our position with all the dignity that our fifteen members could muster. Our officers for our third year were president, Harry Burlingameg vice-president, Jerry Logang secretary, Joylene Boslerg treasurer, Yvonne Battsong and sergeant-at-arms, Dennis Burke. Student council representa- tives were Beverley Ostergard and Jerry Rector. Roger Mattson joined the class this year. Miss Eddlemon was our adviser. The first big event of the year was the junior prom entitled WAutu n Esca- pades.N On March 6 we gave our class play HThe Eager Miss Beaver.U Early in December we elected our annual staff for the publication of the 1953 edition of the Tillicum. We elected Joylene Bosler as editorg Harry Burlingame, assistant editorg Jerry Logan, business msnagerg Yvonne Battson and George Russell,-sports editorsg Everett Macomber, photography editorg and Loretta Neeley, joke editor. Our last project of the year was the Junior-Senior banquet which followed the theme of WHighland Flingn and was held in May. Our last and most memorable year started with a dance given in honor of the freshmen. We lost Beverley Ostergard this year. Our officers for the year were president, Harry Burlingameg vice-president, Jerry Logang secretary, Joylene Bos- lerg treasurer, Yvonne Battson, and sergeant-at-arms, Everett Hacomber. We presented our class play entitled HMountain Galn early that year. we held a raffle in January to raise money for a gift for the school and our sneak. Our adviser was Miss Clark. As our days in Oakville high school grew numbered and the ordering and fitting of our caps and gowns proceeded, we looked back over our years nere with satisfaction and sadness but with the knowledge that we were going out into the world of higher learning ready to take our part as citizens of an ever new and changing world. S E E S i E 3 i E Class Prophecy My secretary told me that Mr. Mattson wanted to see me, so I told her to send him in. When he came in, he told me he wanted to talk to me about a movie we were going to produce called NThe Coat.U Ten years ago Twentieth-Century Fox produced a film called UThe Robe.H Well, the Roger-Dwane Studios are going to make this film in AromaCinemaScope, a new process that our friend and colleague Jerry Rector has developed. We decid d to go over to his laboratories to see if he had made any new discoveries. When we arrived, we were met by his secretary who told us that Jerry was in his private projection room watching an experi- mental run of an NAromaCinemaScopeW film entitled HA Day at the Brewery.U He had left word that he did not want to be disturbed so we thought we would leave and let him continue his-work????? That evening we decided to dine at the Mocombo, a famous restaurant recently purchased by the Loganaires, a corporation that owns restaurants fr m coast to coast. Jerry Logan has realized quite a fortune from this venture. He also has interests in the movies he bought from the Terry Tune Studios, and has renamed it the Jerry Tune Studios. A twenty-five piece all girl orchestra, under the direction of Jean Burd, was playing there. When it was time for her break, she came over to our table. we soon started talking about our high school days. I asked her if she had run across any of our old friends. She said that she had seen Mike Townsend and Gerald Sloppy when her orchestra played at the Swiss Alps lastvvinter. It seems they are the head guides there. Also last year when she was in France and her orchestra was playing at the hospitals, she had met Joylene Bosler. It seems she is the head nurse of the Medical and Surgical Department of the United Nations and travels throughout the world checking on the conditions and the welfare of the people. Jean then asked us if we had seen any of our old classmates and Roger told her that .when he went on location last year for a movie in Wyoming, he met Rita Murray. She is the owner of the largest herd of pure-bred Arabian horses in the world. Also when he was in San Francisco two years ago, Yvonne Battson had come to see him about making a movie on a book she had written entitled NI Didn't Know He was a Rotten Egg Until I Dropped Him.U When it was my turn to tell of my knowledge of our old classmates, I told her that Dennis Burke was now a big-name movie star but he now had a different name. He is now called NDennis the Menacen and that Harry Burlingame had written a song that was on the hit parade. it was called Ulf You Have a Mother-in-law Named Net, Don't Drag Net Out of the House.U I also told them that George Russell and Loretta Neeley had married and taken over the HI Love Lucyn show from Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez. It sounds awfully funny to hear George talk with a South American accent. With all this color television George had to have his hair dyed jet black while Loretta had to have hers dyed fire red. Roger said it was funny that none of us had heard what had ever become of Everett Macomber, when all of a sudden a blare of tru pets sounded throughout the restaurant, A band of waiters flocked to the door to be of service. We looked and found it to be none other than Everett followed by a swarm of beautiful girls. we asked a waiter why he was so important and he told us that Everett had discovered a gold mine in Africa and was now a billionaire many times over. Besides that he now had AO beautiful secretaries. Roger and Dwane looked at each other with tears in their eyes. ! i 2 S :Y 2 Class Will We. the Class of 1951+ of Oakville High, having served full uma, and being possessed of excellent mental capabilities despite four years of hard labor, do hereby make, declare, and publish this to be our first and last will and testa- men . This is followed by a program.to ntertain the student body. They also have to memorize the preamble to the HOU Club constitution. During the year the HOW Club sponsored several parties an dances which were enjoyed by everyone who attended. At the end of the year they have a picnic which lasts for the week-end. The WON Club tries to prepare the boys for future life by bet- tering their citizenship and good sportsmanship. The club is ad- vised by Coach Weitz. :3 ff we -, :L 2 1 -We 1 jam: 3. The Girls' ,Club is an organization composed of all the high' school girls and the eighth grade girls. It is an active organi- zation in the high school and participates in many of the activi- ties of the school. They gave a tolo and it proved a big success. The auditorium was decorated very elaborately. They had several bake sales at P-TA meetings. These went over very well. The girls donated pies, cakes, cookies, and candy. The proceeds of these activities were used to put on an athletic banquet in March and a mother's tea in May. These are always well received by everyone. When the football season started on September 1, 1953: the 00BCh Started with a few returning lettermen and quite a number of new comers. The team turned out eight days before school started in order to get in ten practices be- fore the Jamboree which was held at Centralia on September 12. On the night of the Jamboree the team and band traveled to Centralia in high spirit to win the Jamboree. Since Adna was the only other six-man football representatives, we played them, Since it was the first game of the year all the players weren't relaxed. The final score of the game was 6-0 in Adna's favor after ten minutes of playing. on September 25 we played Wishkah here. It was a very close game. At the end of the first half the score was 13-6, Oakvi1le's favor. In the second half Wishkah made another touchdown to tie the score. In the fourth quarter Oakville mgde the final touchdown to make the final score 20-13 in Oakville's favor, af ' ,Q F z ff, ' . When the game was underway it showed right away that our pass defense was not good enough to cope with their very good passing. The final score was 38-12 in Adna's favor. we played Napavine at ho e on October 19. Our hope was high in spite of the loss to them in a practice game. As the game was underway the score at the half was 12 to O in our favor but our defense slowed down as their spirit picked up and they came back to make two touchdowns and one conversion. That made the final score 13-12 in their favor. we traveled to Toutle Lake on October 16. we knew their team was good and we would have to play very hard. The score turned out to be 51-O, their favor, On October 30 we traveled again to Rainier. we were in high spirit as usual. The score was 57-22 in our favor. That game gave us more spirit than ever and in the final game with Lebam we won with a close score of 21-20. The players elected George Russell and Ronald Taylor as the co-captains. Ronald Taylor was injured in the Wishkah game and was unable to play the rest of the season so Dennis Burke was elected to take his place. With the record of the preceding games I think, and so do the coach and players, we had a very successful season. A J. Boxing There was a little more interest in hom ' . . rg this year than there has been in prev1011S years.. About twelve or fifteen boys turned out in high spirits. They fmmd the tr 31113-US 8 little rough, but no one complained. Q Under the Coachlne of Mr. Still the boys showed that they were capable of taking care. of themselves. There were several meets in which they all got a Cha-U09 t0 fight. All the boys had fun ani learned something they can use all their lives. It was a successful season as far as the boys think. Basketball There were twenty-five or thirty boys turning out to try their skill at basketball during the 1953-51+ season. Their main object was to get on the first ten players which made up the first team. It was all under the co aching of Mr. Weitz ani I-ir. Still. There were a few lettermen returning from last year. There were two games before the jamboree which was held in Centralia high school gymnasium. There were four teams represented--Rainier, Tenino, Rochester, and Oakville. In the first game between Tenino and Oakville saw Oakville win- ning. The second game was between Rochester and Rainier. Rochester won. The third game was between Tenino and Rainier with Tenino winning. The fourth game saw Rochester and Oakville matched with Rochester winning by a score of ll-9. The season didn't turn out as well as we would have liked it to. when the season was over, we were tied with Tenino for second place in the league. Of course this meant we would have to play it off to see which team would go to the district tournament. This game was played on February 22, 1954. Tenino won by a. score of 36-29. Jerry Logan as captain and Rolfe Moe as co-captain as well as the rest of the boys think of it as a successful. season. , M M. Knj. t Oakville .
