FO RTHA DFIFTH We started school rn the fall wrth erght puorrs rn grade four The second week of school Sandy Nlrles entered our grade After twelve weeks rn our school Sandy returned to Arkansas to lrye wlth her Grand mother The frfth grade has ten puprls 1l'l rt There are four grrls and srx boys rn grade frve We were very busy then practrcrng for the operetta We enyoyed grvrng our operetta Molly be Jolly It took much practrcrng and plannrng on the part of each one but we thought our experrence costumrng and performance were worth rt We were so pleased when our audrence came Most of the leadrng parts were chosen from our room We realrze we may not be the best actors but we are proud to be the oldest puprls downstarrs now In November on our Thanksgrvrng booklet covers we had a nrcture of a chrld wrth head bowed and hands folded Below the prcture was prrnted the words GIVE THANKS lnsrde our booklets we wrote storres and rllustrated them free hand Our booklet told storres of Prlgrrms leavrng England therr stay rn Holland the Mayflower voyage landrng on Plymouth Rock therr flrst wrnter burldrng log cabrns sprrngtrme and plantrng crops and the Prlgrrms sharrng The Frrst Thanksgrvrng wrth lndrans Early rn December we enjoyed the movre Lrttlest Angel At Chrrstmas trme we trxed to remember to thrnk about grvrng rnstead of recervrng To help us carry out our thought we parnted and wrapped clothes sprrnkler grfts for our Mothers Some hrgh school boys were krnd enough to get us a Chrrstmas tree for our room we spent one art perrod makrng most of the decoratrons used on our tree Iwear our tree on a table we had a Natrvrty scene wrth a lrght shrnrng over the Babe rn the manger We had free hand prctures of candles wreaths frreplaces Chrrstmas trees etc on our bulletrn board and carrled out a Surprrse Chrrstmas Party on therr teacher Mrs Wrlson was called upstarrs to the tele phone When she returned the classroom was empty and Mrs Wrlson was rnvrted to Jorn the puprls rn the lunchroom where rce cream and cake were served At thrs trme the chrldren presented therr teacher wrth a Chrrstmas grft of a leather brllfold and a manrcure set Games whrch had prevrously been selected by a commrttee of chrldren frlled out the rest of the perrod The teacher was very grateful , and the puprls were delrghted to realrze that therr secret of many weeks had at last become a success' l we are expectrng to get a lot of work done rn our school books before Sprrng The thrng we Want to answer most of all next May when school IS closed IS Yes to that famrlrar questron Drd you Pass?
