“F 9 GRADE HIGHLIGHTS Q, wr., EIGHTH GRADE 'G The ftrst day of scnool last tall saw twelvegage D.1DlS r attendance The secord week our number wa mcreased to thtrteen by he entry of .Tasse Hanra However he was wttld us onlv tour xecks when hrs tammly moved away We found subject studted thts year to be about the same s last year wxth the ex eptton of lo-1 Hxstory mo t oxernmert X class meettng held soon after school opened res lted mn he elec ton of the tollow1 g class l1CEI5 Pres1dent Barbara Campbell Vxce P estdent Dav1d Sxverly Secretary Borme Water house Treasu er Max Peterson Ltbrartan Dorxs Cordlll Reporter bandra v'veh e Our party was held on the ex emng ot December 16 wr h all but two members of the class at tendmg Mrs Waterhouse and Mr Peterson were specxal guests The fxrst part ot the evenlrg was spent skatmg L ter we played games and served refreshments ln the school unchroorn The party w xs greatly enjoyed by everyone except Barbara who suffered a fall on the 1ce but we are glad to say wxth no lastxng tll effects Alu ost all members of the class are on the Jumor Hlgh Basketball teams whxch are enjoylrg very successful season Boys haye won three games lost one gxrls have played only one outslde game whxch they w on Both teams are sttll gotng strong wtth more games scheduled SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADE bchool began August Z9 w1th twelve boys and gtrls tn the seventh grade and fourteen tn the sxxth There were three new pupxls Roger and Mary Foster who came from vkapello tn the smxth grade and Janet bchmlb from Calxforma in the seventh lt was fun for the smxth grade to go to school upstaxrs and run up and down those steps Hardly had school begun when we had our fmrst vacatlon Labor Day September 5th After that we soon became engrossed m fractxons anclent c1v1l1zat1ons nouns verbs etc Early 1n October Mrs Peterson began to make plans for an operetta Soon parts were asstgned costumes planned and many songs learned Then began some good hard practtce whtch ftnally cul mtnated tn the presentatton of our operetta Dream Ranch on the evemng of October Z8 ltlost of us were scared but thrtlled and a ltttle glad when tt was over After the Thanksgxvmg Holtdays November 24 and Z5 we began to make plans for our ntcest season of the year We ordered some thlngs from the Real Wood Crafts to make for gxfts and spent many spare moments sandmg narlmg pamtrng and waxmg The tree we had for Chrlstmas was beauttful and the gxfts were lovely There was a mee long movte and then a week of Chrtstmas Vacatxon The months of December January and February were exc1t1ng basketball ttmes as many of us played tn our fxrst games We had boys games wlth West Burlington Wapello and Huron both here and mn thexr gymnastums The gxrls played Medxapolls and Sperry At the end of December J1mmy Munday moved to Arxzona w1th hzs famtly so we have only ten pu pmls left mn seventh grade The wtnter months are good tlmes for learnmg decxmals, percentage, the ways people lne xn other countrtes, dxagrammmg sentences, comparlson of adjectlves and adverbs and all the new and astontshlng facts found between the covers of other books These long lessons tntermtngled wtth the usual colds, mumps, chtcken pox, and measles, have made us eager for the warnx spring days and thetr nromtse of summer vacatton x .. el 3 ,Q -i.
