Oakton is a puzzle composed of 1800 pieces. Some pieces of the puzzle are larger than others. But it takes every piece, regardless of color, shape or size, to make the whole picture of Oakton. This year ' s Paragon tries to let you see exactly what piece of the puzzle you are. September 4, 1973 started the school year. Bus loads of underclassmen pulled up to the curb starting the new school year. The familiar squeals of car wheels echoed the cry of the returning Seniors. No sooner had school started than the students found themselves wrapped up in Homecoming. The sixth period pep rally proved to be a show for everyone with class competition running high. The shouting, cheering and enthusiasm were fantastic, unequalled by any past rally. An all-new Student Government started early, planning the following activities for the school. Oakton had its first Folk Festival which was truly enjoyed by all. The club assembly presentation put everyone in stitches. Clubs elected presi¬ dents and began drives for club membership. The school got some color into its life — burgundy and gold. Homework kept the week nights busy and left students and faculty alike to look forward to Friday ' s game. After the game the Oakton crowd swarmed to various parties or Far¬ rell ' s Ice Cream Parlor. Winter sank in and everyone was on the watch for the first sign of a snow day. Drama ' s prod¬ uction, Once Upon A Mattress, served as a nice refresher in the monotonous life of the student. The basketball team kept the school on its toes. Everyone needed a rest from school life, especially the students. The year was in full swing. Spring finally came around and spring fever hit both fac¬ ulty and students. Underclassmen got the itch for school to end while Seniors anticipated new beginning. Cafeteria lunches lost business as daring Seniors went to McDonald s, fearful of Mr. Green ' s eyes on the return trip. Finally June 8 rolled around. Oakton lost 4 I 8 students. The day of graduation arrived and Wolf Trap will never be the same. The popular class of 1974 left Oakton, removing a large portion of the puzzle. Each Senior was to find himself in a new puzzle. June 16 came with mixed emotions. Summer had come and the lazy days were soon to begin. All would be returning except the Seniors. The puzzle of Oakton would fall apart and lose its meaning until next year. 2
