' v i ' h ,.• 1 1 y f 1 •l£3 S-- ' -I 284 oakton high ' s student body honored the class of 1969 and 1970 by inviting them to return to their alma mater for the homecoming activities, a bon fire, game, and a dance were the main activities for homecoming with the game being the only disappointing event of the week ' s activities, the judging of the floats was done at half time with the sophomore class taking top honors. kathy gooch was elected queen from three senior princesses, court honors also went to seniors, linda mc- intyre, chris mechnie, juniors, debbie noil, jamie macker- cher, sophomore, pam collins, and freshman, rosi nguyen. the week was topped off by a dance on Saturday night with the incredible fog entertaining for the dance, oakton ' s alumni was greatly welcomed at our second homecoming. 285 ol ' sadie hawkins 286 bobbing for apples and pie eating contests were just part of the fun at oakton ' s annual sadie hawkins dance, the november dance with its li ' l abner and daisy maes was considered a real shin¬ dig by all the folk in attendance. costumes were judged on originality and just plain cuteness, marryin ' sam was highlight of the night for those girls lucky enough to catch them¬ selves a fella. 287 how to succeed in business without really trying was oakton ' s highly successful musical this year, under the great directing of mr. cox and the superb acting of the leads inez wells, debbie gunstra, mark tarello, and mike kennedy the musical enjoyed standing ovations for all three nights, the musical had sell-out crowds every night. the musical is about a window washer who eventual¬ ly makes it to the top, in an easy way. the comedy and excellent acting kept the audience on the edge of their seats at all times during the entire musical. I cwh eW) juuA : 0 U ,oii CifiCirrri Lt yvuo te 00 0 c i oj) fhjlca j p U yfcc s v. h iol OJUthD o tvolQ xyy 291 juniors found out what a long wait could be after ordering their class rings in October and having to wait until april to receive them, the class rings serve as a reminder and an id to the students who wear them, class rings are also known as the last big step before becoming a senior. the rings were given to the juniors who attended an early morning breakfast sponsored by the senior class. 292 the juniors held a class dinner, during October in the cafeteria, to raise money for their prom, junior class spirit lacked and only a handful of people showed up for an excellent dinner and dance, the two dollar a plate menu consisted of chicken, potatoes, beans, milk and a dessert. 293 on your mark ... get set .,. trot? there they go, the faculty turkey trotters, with costumes like they ' re wearing who can tell who won? but then who cares? just watching them trot is enough for anyone. turkey trot 294 wmmmmmm student enjoyed many pep assem¬ blies during sixth period this year, all of the assemblies were held in the gymnasium at the beginning of a sport season or before a big game, often at the assemblies an outstanding athlete or team was awarded a trophy for ex¬ cellence. the varsity cheerleaders led the packed gym in cheers that lifted the team ' s hopes and filled the school with a good feeling of accomplishment. 295 the adding machine . . . 296 297 oakton high had the privilege of hosting the Washington, dc area bands of tomorrow contest this past jan. oakton s stage band and combo placed high in their rankings among the other area schools, the contest took two days to complete and the final rankings were broadcast over several dc area radio stations. 298 fashion show the oakton high fha club held its finest fashion show this past january. girls taking home economics and fha club members modeled clothes that they had made themselves, parents of the girls enjoyed a fine evening of modeling in the auditorium. 299 300 the sweetheart dance, sponsored by the junior class, was held on the day before valentines day this year, the dance was considered a great success by the few, but cheerful sweetheart couples in attend¬ ance. the incredible fog provided great live music for the dance. 301 302 • ? ; time is on our side ( y , utAj V.-—w OM X j T t _y ' TJu,.
