Williams 181 Freshman Cheerleaders Like the Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders, the Freshman Cheerleaders supported the Oakton High School athletic teams and promoted school spirit. However, their main efforts involved the freshman class: the cheerleaders promoted spirit within those teams and unified their class as a whole. Their contribution to a spirited student body should not be slighted. Capt.—Nancy Bell Co-capf.—Lynn Williams Kathy Bisbee Joanie Blackburn DanI lacono Debbie Noll Susan Pittman 182 Capt.—Nancy Bell Junior VarsHy Cheerleaders From the football field to the baseball diamond the JV Cheerleaders faithfully supported their boys. Whether their team was overwhelmed in victory or wallowing in defeat the cheerleaders screamed and cheered until the last remaining seconds of each game. They stirred the JV fans in roaring Cougar chants to let their team know they were on their side. Indeed, the JV Cheerleaders became an enthusiastic part of Oakton High School. In the battle that goes through life We ask for a field that is fair, A chance that is equal In all our stride, The courage to do and dare. And If we should win—let it be our code With faith and honor held high. And if we lose—let us stand by the road And cheer as the winners go by. So grant us to conquer, if con¬ quer we may. By showing our worth in the fray. And teach us to lose like honorable men And not like the heathens, we DEBBIE HILL pray. LISA DAVIS DIANE KELLAM DEBBIE PETSKO Co-capt. Besides co-sponsoring the Sadie Hawkins Dance and Safety Week, the Oakton Club boys ushered at all musical events and operated the school elevator for the physically handicapped. The muchly needed auxiliary book store was opened giving students a chance to buy supplies before school as well as during all three lunch shifts. Paragon Assistant Editor Liz Johnson 190 PARAGON STAFF Kathy Hughes—editor Liz Johnson—assistant editor Beth Belanger Pixie Bowman Melanie Danner Mike DiSanto Chris Fitzgerald Bonnie Hanes Sue Hartnett Buddy Hayes Karen Houhoulis John Hughes Charlie Revis Sue Turner Under the guidance of the sponsor and the editor, Mr. Ray Wilkins and Kathy Hughes, the PARAGON staff endeavored to create a pictorial record of Oakton High ' s memories during 1968-1969. While each member of the staff was assigned and responsible for a specific aspect or section of the book, the entire staff worked as one body to produce a unique, unified yearbook. The OPUS staff began the year by obtaining and furnishing their own workroom. Given the same amount of money as last year, the staff was still able to produce two twenty-page issues, one In February and one In May. The response for material was answered many times over the staff ' s hopes. The staff anticipated that Oakton students will continue to support the magazine and use this publica¬ tion as an outlet to express their creative interests and talents. OPUS STAFF D. Boyd—editor J.
